I think I still got it
Early this year during and after ice fishing season my buddy and I tried to come up with as many excuses or reasons why.... couldn't we catch or find any crappie. After many conversations and thoughts, it was told to us that we just didn't have the touch , the know how or the skill set to slay slabs anymore. The reason was simply because we were blinded , addicted, just plum crazy over the walleye..... sounds about right but I know it's still in me to catch crappie. I think with a little time spent and going back to the basics, like a bobber , split shot and #6 tru turn gold hook, or a 1/16oz jig head w/ a bobby garland minnow fry bait, no high end electronics just simple depth, water temp, ohh that looks like a fish fish finder. The time spent after a long hard day at work, sitting on a cushion in a 14' aluminum with friends watching bobbers and slaying slabs......is priceless and are moments that will forever be remembered. These were the biggest of the night, we ended with 28, size ranged from 8-12.

Kevin,
Just think how many you would have gotten with a Minnow.............
Good job.

Great job of getting some slabs Kevin.
Sometimes it’s the simple things that get the job done.

great post Kevin.
some of us just love the sight of a bobber going down! it is my favorite way to fish them, although that slight "thump" when they grab a jig is hard to beat also.
glad you got into them finally.

Made a solo trip this morning down to a favorite watering hole. The bite was slow until the wind picked up some, fish seamed to be scattered, I saw many small schools of big crappie roaming around like they were trying to regroup. I would catch one out the group before they disappeared. I kept 10 had many throwbacks, was only keeping 10" and better.

I'm on a roll and momma is happy, I got up this morning not knowing I was going fishing but that alarm woke me up and I knew I wasn't going back to sleep. So I got dress hooked up boat and to the lake I go, but as I approach the on ramp to m6 I notice a familiar rig, it was very clean and new looking, I continued to follow all the way to the lake , and guess who jumps out with a great big smile ,our buddy jimmy. We were greeted by a beautiful sunrise Attachment 301271
The water temps was kind of a surprise at 63-66 degrees, so I thought the fish should be relating to weed beds , tree tops , etc.
I targeted all weed beds today in 5-7fow , small cork, small split shot and 1/32oz pink jugs head with bobby garland plastic in bluegrass my other rod had same setup just with a pink and white pinkie jig in 1/32oz. I ended the morning with 17 crappie ,size were 10-14"
