Little Maumelle 3-24-07
In-laws came down from Missouri for a little Crappie fishing. My wife, daughter, neighbor and the in-laws went yesterday afternoon for a little bit and we all went back at them this morning. Water was 66-70 degrees. Could not find any on the banks but tore them up in the cypress trees including the 2lb 8oz big fish of the day (of course I caught it). Yesterday caught a couple of nice green carp (if there is such a thing). Going to give them a break (and drop a few in some hot oil) this evening but hit them again in the a.m. I caught the big one but Mother-in-law took us to school on the most. Forgot to get a good count before we cleaned them.
Saw LR Joe and his fishing partner, said they tore them up as well. Maybe we can get him to post some pics.
The big one of the day.

Nice catch!!!! What were they hitting?
-
That's a great catch, I bet y'all had a good time.
-
Jigs tipped with a nibbler. Just about any color you wanted to throw at them. Tried my hardest to make them want a pink minnow, but did not have a single bite on minows today.
-
Nice pics. Nice catch and the dinner looks great. Is that the goocher's hushpuppy recipe? Looks like you had a great family day, keep them close there is never enough of those days.

dinnertable
Helmsclaw that picture of the dinner table will be the best one of the day other than that highpowered bass fisherman. Have a good day and God Bless

Great post! Thanks for sharing the pictures with us....boy oh boy you were RIGHT ON when you said "Nothing beats fishing with grandpa..." Wish I still had mine around, those were times I could never forget....! Good luck...MM

Helmsclaw...is that your express boat (camo)? If so, I have some questions for you about that model, thanks....MM

Don't have any picks. I got 20 yesterday morning from 7.30-10.30 and all of the were of the felet size. It was a great day. I will be back this afternoon. We are about to head to church.

Thanks everyone for the compliments. We really had a good time. Went back today and ended up with 27 keepers. Will try to get some pictures up later. Minnow Man, it is my camo Xpress in the pic. You can either PM your questions, ask me on the board or better yet we could hook up and go fishing and you could answer them all yourself.

Helmslaw, did not do as good today. I hear they shut off at about 1pm. I was out there from 4-7pm and got 8, but they were big ones. Everyone that was coming out had a lot of fish, but they said they were all cought before 1pm.

LR Joe, our 27 came slow. We were supprised when we counted them to see how many we actually had. It was sometimes a while between fish. I hope to get back out there this week. Did you all go back to the same place? I googled it and figured out how to get there next time. It is hard to give up someplace that has been producing. Might give your cove a try in the future.
-
Yep, we went back to the same place. I saw about 5 BIG "no necks" (snakes) and my wife was buggin me to death to keep the boat moving. That could have hurt me on the actual final count.
I may go to your spot tomorrow.

Speaking of Spots...
I was on the Little Maumelle Saturday afternoon my self. I saw Gooch first thing. His party was catching a few close to the mouth. I tried the condos we set out last weekend. I was too busy getting all of my poles out and lost four minnows on the boo Gooch set out. I never did get another bite after I got ready for them. The banks were all muddied up from the traffic so I didn't fish the stakes that were shallower too much. Some body came up to me as I was pulling out and acted like I was pulling his leg when I told him I didn't catch anything there. I started to ask him if it was such a good spot, why wasn't he fishing it. But, all of the Sunday School lessons I have had prevailed and I mosyed on up the river without a confrontation.
I went back up to where Coats and I found them last weekend. I kept a few but, I was wore out by the dinks. I probably caught 40 while anchored there and kept about 6 that wouldn't embarrass me too bad if I showed them to somebody.
How do you guys get to the Ranch? My neighbor told me about it, but I never did find anything he described. The pictures in this post looks kinda what he described and I never did see any of this while out there.

Crappie Nibbler. Manufactured Crappie bait. Kind of like "Power Bait." A little piece of I don't know what it is but the Crappie seem to. They come in all kinds of different colors. Not sure if the color matters as much as what they are made out of. My father-in-law and wife swear by them. You can get them at nearly any place you buy fishing tackle.
