Spring crappie trouble

I fish on Lake O the Pines and Ive been out 3 times in 2 weeks looking for crappie with almost no luck. The weather and temps have been up and down, water levels have been dropping fast and I have no electronics on my new boat yet. This is also my first time trying to catch crappie in the spring. Im usually a summer, fall and winter guy. Any advice on where to start would be greatly appreciated. Its no fun taking your 5yr old out fishing and not catch anything. Thanks for any help given.

Are there any submerged trees you know about or are there trees underwater and can see the tops only above water? These will hold crappie to find without sonar. Any visible structure will hold crappie so you have to know where some may be without sonar. Try these sites. I did a Google search for LOP crappie spots and got these. Do a heavy search Here at C.C and you will find reports elsewhere by doing a google search deeper looking at any and all reports posted on internet.

Ive hit everything I know of but with the weather acting up I cant ever get a good read on where the crappie are sitting. They seem to be moving alot due to temps and the water dropping so fast. I tried the fish attractors, some shallow areas, brodge pylons and a few brush piles only to come up with a couple of fish. Thanks for the links.

Im going to get on the lake around 7am saturday morning and see where I go from there. The reports Im getting are that crappie have spawned and are moving to post spawn areas and the next guys says they still havent. Going to be trial and error until I find some.

Move, move, move and move again until you find them.... start shallow and work your way out....
Using your electronics to find the structure that's not visible above water is 10 times more productive than fishn stuff that any Joe Blow can see and fish....
Remember they don't board plans and go to another lake... have confidence....

From the reports OliverB post the crappie are thriving very well in LOP....

Thats one issue I have at the moment. No electronics on the boat yet. I sold my old boat as a package deal with everything on it and now working back to better stuff. Thanks for the advice guys.

a 99 dollar graph will tell the tale bro and to be sure if you know an area they spawn you need to do like SK said and try it shallow and work out from there .
I don't know that lake but I bet if you got a pair of binoculars you can see who is crappie ketchn and copy what they are doing ....I am of the opinion there are a lot of ways to skin a cat ....LOL

The graph on my last boat was a $99 Lowrance hook3. Im working on a Lowrance Hook5x splitshot and also the Hook7x splitshot. Put both of those on the boat hopefully in June.

I am the same way. I don't know what I am doing this year. Water temp is up and down about 5 degrees each time you go. Some are catching a few in the mouths of the creeks, I am catching a few around the bridges and other places. The females I catch have very few eggs. I don't know if they have spawned and I missed it. The water level has dropped 6 feet over the past three weeks. Some say that are still biting in the deep water. I haven't a clue what I am doing this year.

Ill be out there in about an hour testing everything. When I find them I will post up.

It’s likely as Far East as you are they have spawned at least once or twice and are sitting in a pre spawn area and or post spawn area ...(same thing) waiting for things to be right yet again

Target 10 to 15 foot of water heavily and shallower bro

That is where I am catching the few that I am catching, Mostly around structure.

Stovall; you can try around Alley from daylight until 8 or 9 and pick up a few. Then move to the trees north of alley where the boat lane starts. I am picking up one or two at each tree. I caught only 14 yesterday. You have to work hard and move often. Be sure your trolling motor has a full charge. Hope you have a blessed day!

Tha ks Oliverb. I was wondering after last weekend if most had spawned already and were headed back out to the main lake. Not surr when my next outing will be but I will try the stumps this time.

I am not sure but I think the spawn is over from what I see. They seemed to be scattered over the main lake. I hope this helps.
