I'm from Ohio, but my daughter and SIL live near Charleston. They got their first boat last year and would like to know where to go for some decent freshwater fishing. Any suggestions that wouldn't be too far from them?

Man, they live in the hotspot of the Carolinas! The Cooper river and the Santee Cooper lakes are World famous, legendary fishing destinations.
Goose creek Reservior
Some fine fresh water fishing can be had at Goose Creek Reservoir, Bushy Park, and the Cooper River.

Just returned from a visit to SC and had a chance to go see Goose Creek Reservoir. Looks like a place I'd like to drop a line, for sure! One of the local guys, who was just sitting on a picnic table and feeding the ducks, said some place called Telsray(?) was also a great place to fish. He wasn't sure of the spelling and man it sure was hard to understand him. lol. Anyone know where that might be?
He may have been saying the "Tailrace". The Tailrace canal is in Monks Corner and is where water exits Lake Moultrie of the Santee Cooper lakes. There are also locks there so boats can pass through. There is usually some good fishing of some type in the "Tailrace Canal" depending on the season.
Ah....I think that's it! Next time I go down there we'll be sure to check it out! Any decent boat ramps that you know of?Quote:

Always read that you had to watch the tides as you could be left stranded on one of the rice fields until the tide came back in....but never experienced that. Once down there was enough for me.:)
Need to get you a "How to speak Southern" book before your next visit, though I've lived in SC for 73 years and I still can't understand the Gullah accents you find around Charleston. I was asked on a trip to Oregon what country I was from, so yeah, we talk funny or else everyone else does.LOLQuote:
