Them Caliefornia crappie sure are purty........Good job.
a great day for sure.
Thank you all for the nice comments, I thank God for such a beautiful place to fish. I had a goal to catch 500 crappie in 2018; I am at 492 and they haven't even spawned yet! Now how do I catch the second part of my goal; a true giant, 17 or 18 inches? Attachment 298456

Curious question (very new to crappie) are the longer poles you're using light or ultra light power? I'm guessing you want the extra length to get the lighter jigs to cast further.
Nice fish by the way!

Personal preference partly, but I do feel that they are superior tools for the job. Mine are utralite action with basically parabolic bending; playing a big crappie without overly powerful gear adds to the enjoyment. Also the laws hear dictate fishing with only one rod per person, so my style is much different than some of yours. I have adapted from the school of hard knocks, but it seems to be working well. I lack skills in finding and catching fish in summer, and fall and in catching the giant crappie; I stay mostly away from the easy to reach habitat and things like that, but I want to catch the big ones on purpose.
