Finally

Well I just got home from the VA hospital with the news that I have been trying to get for over 5 years. I finally have been approved for knee replacement surgery with my first one shheduled for May 16. Boy am I one happy old fart now. I will miss some of the good fishing but that is okay. So if you all will say a prayer that everything goes okay I will really appreciate it.

Congrats for finally getting the approval and prayers for it going well. When I have heard of some not going well, it has usually been because of the patient not following the doctor's orders and those of the physical therapist after the surgery. Do not try to do something you are not supposed to too early. Occasionally there can be some infection from the surgery but that seems rare. Most have been very happy afterwards and wished they had done it earlier but they were questioning it for a while after the post-op and during the therapy.

Don, I am very happy for you getting the good news on approval for knee replacement. I know you really want and need this. We all will cover the prayers for a successful surgery and great recovery. We can try to wear out the Crappie between now and time of the surgery so you won't feel like you have missed too much !

Congrats Don on the news! I hope it will pass quickly for you. My second one was like a breeze, I knew what was in store for me and how to cope with it. Little fearful on the first not knowing what it would feel like and all that goes into the therapy. But I recommend it highly now to anyone! You'll do just fine because of your attitude toward it now. You are ready for it! Prayers sent and will be sent May 16th for a speedy recovery.:highfive

Ice will be your friend but don't over do it and bend the crap out of it when they tell you to! :biggrin

Good luck. Don't cheat on rehab.

Don, it's a piece of cake, I've been down that road about 4 or 5 years ago. Take the meds and stay ahead of the pain the first couple of days and by all means do the physical therapy and no short cuts on that either.

Praying that the time until surgery goes by quick and the recovery goes by even quicker.

Thanks fellows for all the well wishes I am looking forward to it. The pain can't be no worse than what I have put up with for a long time. I plan on fishing as much as possible between now and then. Mark we can plan a lunch meet one day before the surgery. This CDC family is the best group of people I have ever been associated with and I love all of you. Thanks

That is good news!! And "only" 5 years from the VA? :) I havent went over to sign up at my local VA. Im still paying for private health insurance at this point. If it keeps going up, i may to give in and go .

KHNC the VA is pretty good on somethings but to slow on other problems. When I was diagnosed with colon cancer in Jan 2015 they operated on me within 30 days and removed the cancer. I had one checkup after that then they forgot about me until a year ago when they figured out they hadn't been screening me regular. Now I am being checked every 6 months. I did not use the VA until I retired and now I am on 90% disability and everything is free.

It is operator error for most part. My feet are to big for ladder rungs and my eyes are always looking at the rod tip so I can't see the ground either. Watch out come through!!:Rofl

Don, glad to hear you are in the line up for the knee replacement. As others had said stay ahead of the pain it will make heal faster. You'll be sleepy but you won't want to do much anyway

Do your rehab! It will be a challenge the first few days, but so worth it. Good luck!
