Is the newer unit that much better or is it just touchscreen and active captain or are there more differences? Can this be networked with the newer units out from Garmin?

As far as sonar capabilities I can not find any differences. Actually the units are being shipped with GT-52 ducers. Which from my research they are the better transducer. As for network ability I can't speak. However I don't think there is a way to network the two units together other than Garmins data cable. Which is just used for waypoints and simple map data. Hope this helps. Oh by the way mine should be here tomorrow. :biggrin
The Exact unit from BPS. I was actually in the market for a new Garmin. Then I seen this deal come across the web last week. No way I was passing that up.
That's what the 73SV was on sale for last fall.
I ordered one a couple week ago to put on the front of my toon. I have 2 of them now one on console and one on bow. I love mine as they do everything I want them to do. Sure some will argue that they are not the latest technology but for most of us cannot tell the difference. Plus the $400.00 saving is nice. Unless you buy a new unit every year you will never have the latest technology.
I am not worried about keeping up with the latest and greatest, but I was just about to buy a 73sv Echomap Plus for 750 and then I stumbled on this deal this morning before I ordered. The touchscreen is not a deal breaker for me, nor is the active captain. I originally wanted a 9" screen but could not afford it given my current budget. I also have a 100 dollars Cabela's giftcard I am going to have exchanged to a Bass Pro one to save a bit more.
I would hurry though. The sale is only while supplies last. And I couldn't think that it would last much longer.
The plus units, when connected via ethernet cable, will share waypoints and sonar. The 6.0 update is required for this.
The 6.0 update also simplified saving/marking waypoints.
Data cable connections
If I read the link correctly, non plus units, do not use Ethernet. I would recommend to call Garmin though, to verify.
Wow! Prices are steady coming down on Side view down view sonars for sure. Two or three years ago a 9" sonar unit with what these do would have cost way way more. Great price to my notion although I am partial to Humminbirds hoping they will come down in price soon.
I ordered one yesterday and should be here Thursday. Best deal on a 9" screen I have found. Will post a review and some pictures after I get the unit. Anyone have any tips for installation of that rather large transducer? Thanks
Are you mounting on the transom or trolling motor?
only thing that keeps me from Garmin is not being able to use my Navionics cards. If I could I would buy me a set also
Mine will be here on the 16th
Correct ...

I could not see them purchasing a company and not allow it to interface with their products. We shall see.
I got my unit yesterday. Everything looks good except for one thing. Before I purchased the unit they're listing specifically stated that the unit ships with a GT xducer. I even called to verify. Since then they have changed the verbiage in the listing. Well needless to say the CV xducer was in the box. Although it is by no means a deal breaker, still a little pissed. I called and got a case #, but I don't expect much to come from it. Hopefully this weekend I can get it all hooked up. Until then tight lines.
Plus unit if networked will share sonar across units plus touchscreen.
The one you linked (non-plus) will share waypoints across units with their data cable.
So if you want to use say panoptix up front and be able to view it at console so ur buddy can see what he is missing go plus. Lol

Yes it was. That's why I called the vendor to verify the listing info. Oh well. All's well that ends well.
If it's any consolation, from what I've read, their isn't alot of notable difference between the CV and GT transducers.
Received my 93sv chirp yesterday from BassPro. CV52 was in the box. Ad clearly stated GT52. I called BassPro and they are receiving calls complaining of the switch. They are looking into it and will get back with me. The ad has changed and does not show the specific transducer anymore.
If you received the CV52 instead of the GT52, call them. The more calls they get, the better chance everyone will/might receive the right transducer as advertised.
What he said.
What is the difference in the 2

The GT's have a dedicated down element whereas the CV's blend the side images to obtain the down view. Similar to what HB did, or does, on some of their models. Personally, I have the GT52 and cannot honestly tell you from my own experience what to expect. One of the guys on BBC (has some nice results) is ifishinxs and he has both, uses both and states he cannot tell a difference. Especially in water less than 30'. Rickie has posted some displays and charts that show how it works. I'm not recommending anything to someone, nor defending anything, nor trashing anything. My late friend had a Bird with blended down view. We fished Wappapello. Found a lot of stuff and caught a lot of crappie. All I can, or will, offer.
This is the one that came with the 73sv that I'm installing on a ski boat and yes I think it is ridiculous to put this on a ski boat Attachment 297976Attachment 297977

On another site, BassPro gave a $25 gift card to an individual who called about the CV52 being substituted for the advertised GT52. I still want my GT52 as advertised. It’s like I told the nice young lady at BassPro, if she ordered a pink dress as advertised and the retailer sent her a yellow dress instead how would she feel. Both fit, but it is not what was advertised. We’ll see what happens. I respect the front line customer service reps who take the wrath after corporate marketing makes a mistake (bait and switch). They have a tough job when this happens. Be nice. It’s not their fault.
Lawnmower man 43- did you request the CV-51? That's a $600 transducer.
No that's just what came

It arrived yesterday hopefully install this afternoon do any of you know if the echomap and stryker series will share info to one another via the data wires blue/brown
If so can I use cat6 wire for the data
Echomap plus, no. As for the others, I would advise to call Garmin or see if Todd Driscoll is on this site.
