The Mississippi is going back up to a 29 ft. crest around the 19 th.
The high water will pay off in the long run, they got no excuse not to have yet another stellar spawn, specially ole Butla gal she had a good one in 16'...
Yes Sir! Hope Butla will bounce back. We used to hammer 'em there before 2013. Haven't done much there in recent years.
Thank you very much for posting about the levels.
I guess I was right in cancelling my trip down there.
Hope to be able to see decent results in the fall.
2 INCHES IN 12 HRS. IS AN AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF . 2 INCHES IN 24 HRS. WILL CUT THEM BACK TO 5 FT. TOTAL ON ENID . CUTTING BACK ON TAKES WORD FROM VICKSBURG .
I have a question for you guys that fish the big four a lot, if you were passing through ms and had some crappie tackle with you, and could stop for half a day to enjoy a little fishing from the bank, which lake would you choose, Grenada, Enid, or Sardis.

I've never fished any of them from the bank, I would think any time other than spring you probably will not do much from the bank unless the spillway gates are open and you can fish in the spillway. I've seen guys fishing from the dam at Sardis and catching fish, fishing from the dam is a good way to get to some deeper water without a boat I guess. There is a little ledge on the Dam at Sardis that I always see guys fishing from, its probably under water right now though.
Bank fishing can be good at any of them during the spring when lake levels are normal or low. Keep in mind there reservoirs they raise and lower all year. Best luck is fishing creeks that feed the lakes they may be by roads or ramps or they may be a half a mile walk out to the creeks where they meet the lakes. Just depends on lake levels. Talked to a buddy today we compared the last 7 springs and they were all at different levels none the same during prime time. So it's hard to bank fish. It's hard to boat fish as well. With this years high water levels most folks are giving up. This week is prime time.
Not likely to catch many crappie fishing from bank. Go to Holiday Lodge boat ramp. You can wade that cove on the east side crappie fishing. also, I saw a dude hauling at least 60 lbs of catfish up to his truck 3 days ago. Fishing on the east of the boat ramp. Used to be a swim area so I'm sure the bottom is still all sand. Was using night crawlers. You can always go to the hwy 7 boat ramp. ditch runs up it. white bass and maybe a crappie or two. else the spillway which i personally can't stand fishing. but its bank fishing.
COE has posted "no fishing on the ramp" signs at Hwy. 7 boat ramp. They say they will write tickets. 100-200 white bass were being taken out every day, and it was getting really crowded on weekends.
Sardis has gates open:
Update: Gates 1 and 4 have been opened from 1' to 2'. New discharge is 1,200 cfs
It's a two fold problem. first the bank fishermen take up the boat trailer parking spots and secondly they sometimes get down right nasty and often refuse to move from the ramp to let a boat in or coming out. The ramp users are paying a fee to use the ramp, the bank fisherman aren't. I have had problems twice, once with ramp hoggers at Beach Point on Sardis and another time with guys fishing from the floating dock at Mcurdy at Enid, both acted as if I was the idiot for wanting to use these amenities for which they are intended for and that's boats. I think they are just trying to let them know the boaters have the right away to the ramp, I agree.
Don't think it should be no fishing though. Maybe all cars must have a fee tag. Really, how often would it be a problem. Not much. But guess someone will not be happy either way.
The issue is taking over the actual boat ramp, the concrete structure folks use to launch. I didn't see in Pops post where they couldn't fish period, but they can't fish from the ramp. They also can't park in the boat trailer spots with a single vehicle with no paid pass for parking be it daily or annual. There is plenty of bank (dirt) to fish from, go on down there and tell 20 of Marshall county's finest who are all related and full of rot gut and whatever else that your fixing to break up there little ramp parade so you can launch, let us know how it works out for ya! :biggrin
:hatchet:
I gots places to fish. I was just trying to help that fellow out on bank fishing. I get along w most anybody.

7 ramp only gets used a couple times a year. Total waste of money. Geuss there trying to get back some of the money they wasted.
Thanks 27458, for the info you posted, I have a boat, I pulled it to Sardis once and caught my personal best crappie 2.6 lb, I’ve never fished Grenada before and should be close enough to Grenada next week, to run by and give it a try, catching a few would be nice, but if not I can still say I fished Grenada, when I fished Sardis I saw some folks bank fishing near the dam, on Grenada do folks fish at or near the dam where the water is a little deeper, and thanks again for being helpful.

My wife and I stopped at Grenada and fished Thursday about half a day and drove around the lake, it sure was a muddy mess, but such a pretty place, and the spillway was a nice place for the people to use. Didn’t see any crappie caught from the spillway, we fished near a picnic area and my wife caught a really nice crappie, and it tore off as she tried to lift it up the bank from the water, bad way and time to fish the lake, but a beautiful place to see.Attachment 298341
