Texoma
Attachment 297401 Made like a duck yesterday and headed south to avoid the weather. Have never fished Texoma before (its a 3 hour drive for me). I was hoping to get in on some spawning fish but I could not find any shallow. Started off early in some promising looking coves that had great cover but no shallow fish that I could find. Backed out to 12-15 foot deep and started picking them up on and around stumps and brush piles. Most fish were stuck right on the bottom and you had to hold it there it front of them for a while to get them to bite. Jigs out fished minnows 3 to 1. I used 1/4 ounce weedless TT jigs with pink/black and chart/black big slab slayers. Water vis was 6-10 inches. I think that is a bit off color for Texoma from what I understand. Once I started fishing slower I really started to pick them up. Ended up with around 25 fish, which wasn't too bad for spending 2 hours fishing shallow and having to search to find piles and stumps. Lake is pretty well brushed up in the part I was fishing, there must be some people that frequently put brush out. Didn't see anyone crappie fishing and the boat traffic was minimal. Only a few males were just starting to get a little bit dark on the tails so I dont think the spawn is going yet in the part of the lake I was in. Caught some decent fish, the one in the pic was biggest at 1.9lbs. Beautiful overcast day with mostly light winds and air temp in the upper 60's, water temp upper 50's (sorry Geezers!) Rain didn't start till 4 pm, when it did, I high tailed it back home. If I go back I think I will have to spend the night. 6 hours driving and 8 hours fishing is not a great ratio.

That's some BIG water crappies. I wish I was only 3 hours away from Texoma... Thanks for the report.

Good to see you post again, wrangler. Looks like you and the spoons are killin' 'em again.
-
Just luck. I don’t really have a clue what I am doing.
-
Knowing you, I have to believe that you are VERY lucky every day. It won't long, and Darlene and I will be using those spoons up in Montana, hammering the trout.

I caught 2 more of those big carp yesterday while crappie fishing. My guest could not believe I landed them using a fly rod and 6 lb line.

1 day makes a big difference. Went yesterday by myself and from boot till 6:00 caught 30 keepers and 38 tosssrs. Two of us fished today from 7:00 am up 1:30 pm and caught 7 keepers.

I had to cut the fishing trip short yesterday after having broke the release rope on my trolling motor. We had only caught 53 by then. Being as my fishing buddy and I are both sick of cleaning fish we only kept fish that were over 12”.

I took a friend and his father-in-law yesterday. They took 68 home. No pictures as they wanted to scale and gut the fish.
-
The elderly father-in-law was 86 years old and he had fun.
-
That's really some healthy looking crappie. WTG!

It was a short fishing trip today. First my bow depth finder quit working then my trolling motor quit working :(. I fished for about an hour and handicapped. Only caught 15.
-
Even when you're UNLUCKY you catch 15. Wish I could be that unlucky.

I did manage to get the HDS 5 repaired and tested the trolling motor enough to know that it has to go to the repair center to be fixed. I traced an open to a switch on the foot pedal. Fortunately for me someone had just given me a MinnKota 80 Lb thrust trolling motor that has a built in transducer. I plan on installing it this morning and installing the third battery to run it.

I did finish installing the gift trolling motor and wii test it in the morning. That much trolling motor should pull a skier on my boat.

The trolling motor works great but the universal sonar will not provide a signal for down or side imaging.

US2 only intended to provide basic sonar. No chirp, downscan or sidescan. Be nice if something like that was available internally so it doesn't get ripped off on rocks etc. or cable caught on something.
-
Yes. They could call it something original like US3

I have had out of town company for a couple days and could not go fishing so today after everyone left I went for about 45 minutes just to get control over the land sickness I had been having. I asked a buddy if he wanted me to bring him some fish and he asked for 8. Here is him posing with the biggest even though he didn’t go with me.

The fish is only 15” but Jess used to fish on the BASS circuit and knows how to hold fish so they look bigger than they are. :)
