I sure wish I could locate one of these. Took this pic at Hurricane last year or year before. Anyone have one you'd like to get rid of or someone can make one? I'm not looking to spend a fortune, but I'm reasonable. :)

A buddy of mine in Batesville named Chris Downs builds pirogues and other style boats. The name of his company is Pintail Duck Boats. Google him and you'll find his info. I think he said sportsmans warehouse is going to carry some of his boats. I bought the 1st one he ever made- talked him into making it for me.
If that's not something you're looking for, Google Paw Paw's pirogues. They have a high rocker on them for maneuverability and they're fiberglass. They are Cadillacs, is what they are. I've owned all sorts of canoes and pirogues and small crafts, but never one of theirs. Just never could pull the trigger on one, money wise, but they are worth it, from what I hear from owners.

I camped at Water Valley Landing March '05 or '06. A few of those short boats were in the campground. I asked, some guy in Water Valley would cut your old boat to that size and make it the way you want it, starting at $200. One boat was a $500 model.
These things used to be everywhere at Sardis 10 plus years ago.

Suspect there's been very few accidents in these especially compared to big motored boat accidents....but I can understand someone's apprehension in getting into one. Mostly fishing shoreline area in this anyway.Quote:

My little boat is awesome. I use the trolling motor to cover distances and then slip around trees and bushes with a paddle. Opens up a lot of areas I can't reach wading, and I can launch it anywhere. It's been a God-send with all this high water. They're definitely worth their cost.

I found this for sale. $400. I bet someone could cut it in half and weld the back end and shorten it up and remove that metal seat. Bingo! Wish I knew how to weld.

I got lucky the other day and found an 8’ Jon boat for $50. It’s light enough I can carry it myself and fits perfectly in the bed of my truck. I bought it to use in my pond at the house but figured it’s perfect for double duty for single polling in the spring

Speck, you'll love that thing. That's what mine is 8'9", and it fits nicely in my pickup. I can't close the tailgate because of a toolbox but I strap it in and it rides fine. I live here on Enid and built the trailer to pull behind my four-wheeler and can get to the backwater pretty much anywhere I want to right now. No way, I'd pull my trailer down the road.Quote:

This was made locally in SC for many years, Unfortunately they are no longer made and a used one is hard to find. One of my dumbest mistakes was to sell this one. It was unbelievably stable. When I saw it demo'ed at a pond, the guy that made them stood up on one side holding on to the seat and tried to make it take water by rocking back and forth. He was about 6' and weighed around 240#. Sold me on it and I loved it. The steering mechanism they had designed and developed was the best I've seen. Most have 2 pedals that are hooked to independent cables and they flop around when not under tension. This design had one continuous cable around a "pulley" he attached to the top of the motor shaft and it was under tension all the time and was super easy to steer. They made 1 and 2 man models, this was the largest they made. Had a large live well under the seat with an access door right at the front between your legs. Also had a 2nd well in the front that could be wet or dry.
This was actually trademarked as "The Sneak". Many models are now called sneak boats, but this was the original.
If you ever see one buy it.

Yes. Those are really cool. I just don't like the price tag. Also, I started thinking about the trolling motors being underneath. If I was in all those vines and jungle stuff fishing and a vine got wrapped into the prop, how in the world would you get it out? And I know the prop is somewhat protected. And if one motor went out, how would you ever get back? You'd be spinning circles. I'm sure 99% of the time that's an awesome thing to fish out of. And I love that the seats are up.Quote:
