Has anyone added Hydro Turf as a replacement for carpet. I'm debating the idea.
I have not personally used hydroturf, but it is very popular in duck boats, mud boats, and bowfishing boats, therefore it must be a pretty durable product. i think it would be a good addition.
if you do a search in the above search box, just type the word hydroturf in. Several posts from the past and I was going to use it, but after a year of being in the elements, some of the users were complaining of the flaking off and not holding up so I used marine grade carpet. Do a search as it’s pretty expensive to do an entire boat.
I did see a few negatives on the camouflage patterns UV issues with flaking and fading. At 80 bucks a sheet it needs to hold up for sure.

I’d love to have it in the floor of my Jon boat hydroturfed, but can’t bring myself to tear out all the depth finders seat mounts, depth finder and rod holder plates and re drill everything for the rest of the boat. I think it matters on how you store the boat for it to hold up, for example, storing your rig indoors and out of the sun to keep the eventual flaking down and there again, really don’t know for sure, how long it will last like a good marine carpet. Then again, all I have to do is get the power washer out, and hose the boat carpet down when it’s dirty. I have been thinking about hydroturf now 4 years and haven’t made my mind up yet. :banghead
This had 2.5 years of heavy use when I sold it. I absolutely love it. Attachment 309628

We have it in our duck boats and our bowfishing boat. It's pretty durable stuff. The camo pattern will wear some but for the most part it's tuff stuff. Just power wash it and it looks new.
The camo we have it a rough contoured type not the smooth surface like above. That would make a difference in the wear I think.
The wear we have is the ribs wearing down not the actual base.

Where did you order from if you don't mind me asking
[QUOTE=Lawnmowerman43;3671417]Straight from their website. HYDROTURF - Traction Products I know you can find it on ebay and other places but I wanted to make sure I get A stock and not B stock. It $109.00 per sheet with adhesive.

Do the darker colors still stay relatively cool in the summer sun? I have been wanting to put Gator Green down in my boat to somewhat match the factory Alumacraft jon boat paint. As of now, that dark green on aluminum makes it scorching hot. I have samples somewhere, I just can't ever remember to lay them out on the deck one hot day to test them lol.
Crap! You guys are gonna make me order hydro turf and do a complete boat tear down. I had this out of my system and gave up on hydroturf till this posting. It’s like a itch you can’t get rid of. :Rofl
[QUOTE=marshrunner757;3671421]I just checked and it is showing $119/sheet with adhesive backing. The checkout estimates shipping at $40 too (assuming 2 sheets ordered) That inline with what you paid?
They also offer it through a boat outfitter called Gator Trax. They only have the green/brown/camo colors though as they mainly do duck boat sales. They list theirs at $98/sheet but don't explicitly say if they have adhesive backing. They also don't have a shipping estimate. Anyone know anything about them? I think they are where I got my samples from though.
[QUOTE=scout-j-m;3673984]Depending which pattern you get, the price vary's. I got the flat gray which was $109. Shipping for 4 sheets was $73 I believe. A lot of people do order from gator Trax but I belive their colors are limited. Mine should be shipping out today. Hopefully I have it for the weekend.

Not at all slick. Even wet or fish slime you have plenty of traction.

Awesome!
Great job Marshrunner!
Do you put down an underlayer of the foam Hydroturf sells on their site or just straight Hydroturf to deck? Did you use any type of additional adhesive or just use the 3M peel and stick adhesive that comes on it?
Fantastic job you did there. Looks very professional.
Thanks. I also lean towards it being unnecessary. I assume if you were putting it on a PWC, which is its designed purpose, the padding would help.
Hopefully I can get by without extra adhesive too. My boat is an Alumacraft jon though so it will definitely take some good sanding/cleaning prep to get a good bond to that basic painted aluminum.
The first boat I put this on had a slick paint job. This boat has a light to medium texture. All I did was wipe the surface down with white rubbing alcohol and stick it down. Once you stick it down and press or roll it, it's stuck.

On my slimed unwashed sides of my Jon boat, when I have to stick my yearly state and launch decals, I wipe clean, and peel and stick. They won’t come off without heat and a raiser blade to put the new ones on. Peel and stick 3 m is the same, clean the surface on your jon boat and stick it on without air bubbles under it. Marshrunner757 is right. When I pull my glued carpet up, I will have to really work the surface clean. That will take some elbow grease!
Beautiful installation job! Looks great! Sure would like to have decks like that in my boat instead of the carpet.
Here is my hydro turf. Going on 4 years now and still loving it. Got the self adhesive type and still stuck in place. I fish barefooted a lot in the Oklahoma blazing summer and doesn’t get hot. Hasn’t faded either. Would recommend it to anyone looking to replace their carpet.

Nice looking job on your boat. That must be some real good adhesive to stay put where you have it wrapped around the seat edges.
Nice looking rig!
