Wow what a fishing day.
Bundled up and headed to the river to fish same area as the 2 previous weekends. Got the boat anchored and baited up lines? Got my 2 lines out and was putting gloves on when hubby said "you got a fish". Grabbed that pole out of rod holder and started reeling it in when the other pole started bending. Had to leave that one go while I reeled in first fish. Hubby got it netted then reeled other one in. In 2 minutes had 2-3lb. Blue cats. Then a small pallid sturgeon. Moved upriver a little bit and got into the lake sturgeon. I caught a 11 lb, a 13 lb and a 14 lb lake sturgeon. They can really pull on your line. Hubby caught a 10 lb. lake, 5 1/2 blue cat and 2 lb. blue cat. All sturgeon quickly released and swam away unharmed. It was one of those days you will remember.Attachment 294746

Love it when you get a pole set up, start another and first one takes off right away!

what a day. sounds like a lot of fun, Now what about them sturgeon's are they not eatable. or must they be released unharmed?
-
Lake sturgeon and pallid sturgeon have to be released. Shovelnose sturgeon can be kept but there is a size limit on them. We have tried them but I didn't like eating them. In fact I couldn't. They are hard to clean and not much meat. I will get the sturgeon pics on here in the next couple of days.
