Single or double

What is everyones opinions on double or single jig rig? I have been rigging braid to weight and three way swivel, then a snell dropper with plain aberdeen hook. Then another dropper with 1/8-1/16 jig on bottom. The problem I'm having is almost half the time my top hook gets tangled with main line. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Would i be better off with single jig rig. Or maybe put the jig/hook right on the line. Thanks for any and all feedback.

I only use single. Just easier and no tangles.

99% single. Even on a good bite, I almost never catch on the top jig.

I do 4 jigs. They are about 18 inches apart, a barrel swivel at the top, and I make a loop out about 1 1/2 out and then tie another knot at about 1/4-1/2 for the jig at the end of the loop. Here's a bad pic. If I get around to it, I'll take a couple pics of the whole setup.

mono is easier to work with and will not act like braid...braid has a mind of its own....learned that lesson this weekend.....

and singles are easier to deal with BUT doubles give you more options....

I just use braid as my main line from the swivel I use fluorocarbon

I almost always fish with a double jig setup. I use 6lb hi-vis Mr. Crappie with no swivels. I tie both 1/16 jigs on about 16-18" apart using a Huckabee knot that (I think) 20watt here on crappie.com posted a couple of years back. I usually add a split shot sinker about 3-6" above the bottom jig. When fishing thick cover I break off slot, sometimes 20-30 times a day. This is a very fast way to tie up a double jig and it works great. It's one of the best tips I've learned on this forum. {You can look up Todd Huckabee knot on YouTube}

6 poles....single hook....shiners....8# Stren line with 1 oz egg slipping with a bobber stopper about 10" from hook on the bottom w/shiner....

I use stiff fluorocarbon to make a double dropper leader.To make a leader I start with a 2 foot length of fluorocarbon and tie a small 1/2 inch Surgeon's loop for a connection to your braid, (I use a snap swivel).Next come down a few inches and tie a 4 inch Surgeon's loop for your hook.Next come down about a foot or so and tie your jig on with Palomar knot.

If I'm fishing shallow laydowns, or swimming the jig, I use single jig........If I'm drifting open water, pole in each hand, I use 2 - 1/16 oz jigs tied about 14 inches apart on 6 lb Stren gold......If it's windy I go to 2 - 1/8 oz jigs

I use something very similar to this. SlabHunter showed me how to tie it. I use 8# main line with 6# leaders.

So everyone thinks I'm messing up by using braid for main line? Only reason for my doing so is to not lose weight and swivel.

Only thing I use is braid on my reels, you never have to worry about line twist with this stuff.

Ok so I think I'm gonna stick with braid for now, use longer flouro leader, and go with a one jig setup and see how it works. How do you guys that spider rig work stumpy water? Do yall just deal with the breakoffs?

I don't use a leader on braid. I never could understand the logic of using 20# braid with an 8# leader. Darbonne never gets clear enough for braid to hurt you.

If I'm fishing cover, I single jig. Fishing open water or deep water I double up.

No leaders, just 2 loop knots about 18" apart. I always thread the top jig on but tie the bottom jig first then the top jig on last. Helps me keep my spacing right. I know that don't make sense but it works for me

I guess the only real reason im using braid is that i don't want to break my weight and swivel off, also i use white fireline so i can mark my line with different color sharpies. I got red-20, green-25, and blue-30. I have so many questions bout spider rigging it aint funny.

I use both, my double can be 2 loop knots or those pre rigged double minnow rigs, or a wire T on top with a Snell and a jig below, I have used wire leaders with double snaps.
I've read so much stuff on here and the web. They all catch fish.
Find what your most confident in first and use that method before you start trying all these other rigs/methods. It helped me alot getting really good at one technique that helped the other techniques come easier.
I'm on my 2nd year going on 3rd year really going after just crappie. My numbers have been way up compared to year 1 following my advice of one technique before other techniques.
I had so many people throwing ideas at me it left me more lost as a goose than I already was. I started with 1 pole and now fish up to 6 at times and all at times have different rigs or all the same. I'm no expert by a long shot, just passing on my rookie advice if I was starting over again.
I've read several good books and watched 100's of videos. Learning to interpret my depthfinders was a big help as well. Dr Sonar had some good videos for that.
