true walleye are virtually non existent. however the Sauger bite should be going anytime. water Is flowing pretty good. haven't been out to try yet, haven't heard any reports or seen any boats either. crappie bite Is too good right now to switch over for me.
Walleye are there in the tail water and on the lake. Not as plentiful as the sauger, but there none the less. Need the right kind of release rate at the dam to catch numbers of them.
im sure true walleye are there, but they are few and far between .Out of the thousands of Sauger I have caught over 20 years fishing below the dam, and every one I know that fishes it , I have seen less than 15 true walleye. I have never seen a true walleye on the main lake, I have seen more musky (2).
Illinois angler, curious as to how many walleye you have caught or seen on the main lake and tail waters? thanks for the reply in advance

Sorry I think of walleye and sauger as the same. I have only caught sauger there but not yet this year. I know it is getting close to when they will be moving.
Do you think it would be good to put a boat in and fish or better from the bank. I have only fished it 1 other time from the bank.

water is rolling out and high. would be tough to jig from a boat, if trolling your gonna have to get down 15-17+ ft with water high. ramp is closed at swinging bridge, the ramp below is open. I haven't seen a boat out at all lately. if it was good I would be fishing for them lol. current this fast is more than I or anyone else wants to deal with. if you get out send a report.
Thanks I guess I will wait for it to come down a bit.

Do you fish sauger the same way you'd fish walleye?
yep
Thanks nubster
what's the ideal flow rate to catch sauger.
When water is at least over the rocks at the swinging bridge by a few feet
how many cubic feet a second is that on the us army corps of engineers chart for Carlyle.
Yes
