Guntersville Lake input

I have the itch to leave Ky and try someplace new for crappie. Thinking about trying Guntersville in March
Appreciate any input on affordable places to stay and in general lake areas to try

Check out Guntersville state park. They have cabins. Nice place. Located on Town Creek witch is a good creek. You can also run to other creeks on the south end depending on speed and range of your boat. Plenty of places to stay in Guntersville and Scottsboro.
guntersville is a huge impoundment, over 80 miles long. If you give us an idea of what part of the lake you want to fish we can give you more help

You can also come a little south to Neely Henry, would be more than happy to put you on fish. What part of ky you in, I grew up in Meade county.

Guntersville in Mar is a great choice! Coach gave you a pretty good laydown above. Also tell us what technique you want to use and that will help us to point you in the right direction.

What is your style of fishing? The lake is open to most every method I know of, but that bit of info will go far in where to tell ya to go.

Use to be a die hard bass guy but started crappie fishing about 8 years ago and love it.. I still fish like a bass guy... that is I like to cast jigs... esp like fishing deep cover and structure for some reason. Yea I know thats odd. If I have to I will tight line jigs.
As for what part of the lake to fish I have no idea.... Since it is so largeI figured I would get off I-65 and stay more toward the lower end.(south end)
I am guessing it is also shallow with a lot of places to get in trouble on the upper end (north end)
I won't deplete your resources, I hardly ever keep em.... just like to catch em lol Not to mention I am only average at best

The whole lake is shallow. Not dangerously shallow, it's just not a deep lake. Wind is your enemy on Guntersville. Especially down south on the "big water." It's not what I would consider to be a dangerous lake. If/when you run up river, just stay in the channel. It's well marked. You don't have to stay in the channel all the time, but that's the safest plan. I wouldn't drive to Bama and not fish both the Sauty creeks while you're here.

Whew! I doubt anyone will tell you where they threw their cover.
Was over there today, met a really nice older man at the ramp. He told me he had drop 19 Christmas trees in the area. He saw me near some and would appreciate it if I didn't fish them. I liked the gentleman, but told him, "Sir, unless you give me the coordinates to those trees, I'm gonna have to guess that if I luck up on them, they are somebody else." He laughed and said, very well.

Best bet if you have good graphs and map chips, look for areas that you are comfortable with and fish those. Wish i could help more, but unlike the Alabama Power Lakes, the TVA lakes don't drop structure with coordinates.

If you want to stay down by the dam, Honeycomb creek has a TVA campground and lots of boat docks nearby. But, if me, I'd follow the advice above and stay at state park around Town Creek. Can fish a very good area as noted, but also gives you a good run up to Scottsboro Saulty Creeks and down to Honeycomb and the dam.

I wouldn't ask anyone where their cover is....

There is some deep cover and brush in Town creek by the bridge. Lots of trees down in that area that you will be able to jig fish.

I am definetely going to come... my buddy got permission to go yesterday, I think his wife actually insisted he go and get out of the house
I ordered a map last night so I can start getting familar with the lake
Next time we see a period of several days in a row that aren't forecasted to rain we are headed down.
Have you guys been getting a lot of rain? All of Ky is flooded, it has been the wettest Feb on record

Same here on the rain just not as much as ky 2 weeks ago we were 2’ low last week we were 3’ high yesterday that had it pulled back down .lake had started clearing but we got quite a bit of rain again last night!

Thanks.... I will need to get on line and find the TVA website and start looking at lake levels and output. Is it the same as around here,,, when they are pulling hard the crappie fishing gets tough ? Just the opposite for the bass.. seems to turn them on
