I purchased an antique steel fishing rod at a yard sale today,it's made by American Fork And Hoe,Geneva Ohio.The rod is supposibly a,medium action,the rod itself is square instead of round.
I paid a whopping $2.00 for it,eBay has them for the average $65.00,anybody ever had any dealings with this type of rod ?
seen a few back when , never tried one ......might be something you hang up to look at maybe ?
I have one made by True Temper.....got a old South Bend reel on it.....all a 30's vintage.

I have found quite a few at garage sales over the years. Some round steel and some square in both long rods and short ice fishing rods. Mine are on the wall of my cottage. I found a square fiberglass last week, I don't recall ever seeing one of them before. It's headed for the wall, too.
Mine will be a wall hanger also,but only after I catch 1 fish with it.Im pretty interested about the design,square vs round,The bottom 1/3 is round tapered,and the rest of the rod is square and tapered,inquiring minds want to know !

I still have an old Heddon "Pal", round tubular steel baitcasting rod that I purchased back in the 50's. Have an origianl Pflueger "Silk cast" casting reel (AKA, "knucklebuster") that I bought with it. Like you said, wall hanger. :)

instructions for posting pics............
First you have to click on the "insert image" icon. It is located between the "unlink" icon (that has a red x on it) and the "insert video" icon (that looks like a film strip). These icons are located just above where you type in the quick reply area. Once you click on "insert image", then the box pops up that has the words "insert image" at the top, as the title. Just under the words "insert image" at the top are 2 tabs (choices). One tab is "my computer" and next to it is a tab that says "From URL". It the picture is on your computer, make sure and click on the "my computer" tab (if should turn grey if selected) Then in the bottom right of that box are the words "basic uploader". Click on those words and then click on the "choose file" button that shows up. Then select your pic, click open....then click upload....give it a minute...then click submit.
No computer,I only use an I phone and an iPad,and if I had my way,I probably wouldn't have either of them :scratchhead

The older steel teal rods are octagonal at closer inspection. This one has a Pflueger reel with wooden spool. It just hangs on the wall but the reel is functional and I can cast with it if need be.
