ESP 6'6" PowerLite rod (and it also comes in 6' & 7') The 6' version does not have a split handle, so it's the same length beyond the front of the handle as the 6'6" version. Very fast action tip - very light weight - micro guides - graphite Tenn style handle w/rings - very sensitive - high modulus graphite blank - blank goes thru the graphite handle and has metallic rings on it that transmit vibrations thru the handle. This rod is not only my #1 dock shooter rod, but is also my primary jig casting rod. The micro guides are not user friendly with slip float stops ... but I don't use slip floats when shooting docks (or casting, for that matter).
Yes, I "was" a field tester for ESP ... No, I'm not sponsored by or affiliated with ESP or Norsemen Outdoors. ESP rods are listed cheaper on the Grizzly Jig website than on the Norsemen Outdoors website.
I like my BnM Sharpshooter 6. Following this will be many different suggestions. My advice would be physically handle several to determine what best suits you.
I recently bought a couple of Southern Crappie 6' spinning rods, and last weekend I put them in the hands of some friends and we shot targets in the brush as you would shoot docks and they worked very well. A one piece rod works best for this and they helped Alex and Jackie have a real good day.
For me the best feeling rod for shooting is the pro angler rod .I have tried several but none like this one plenty back bone and you can still feel the thump on the fall!
Wally Marshall SpeedShooter in 7'. Good backbone (power) and fast action.
Pro Angler makes great rods and they are also great to deal with.
I have quite a few of them and they are tough rods.
I ordered a 5'5" for docks and it arrived with the carton damaged.
When i opened it the very tip was broken off where the rod joins the tip.
I called and was told to send a few pictures by email, but meanwhile they would send another rod and a new tip for the other which i could also keep. The rod and tip arrived before i sent the email.
Check out new rod builder in Illinois. ACC rods. Coming on strong. Was a guide and from there started to build his own requirements for crappie fishing
B’n’M Sharpshooter or Wally Marshall Speedshooter. These rods are made with the specific action for shooting docks. I have both and you can’t go wrong with either one!

WALLY MARSHALL 7 FT WMPSS7OML
Whats the advantages/disadvantages of the 5'5" rod versus a 7 footer of each?
Only "advantage" I found with my 5' & 5.5' rod for dock shooting was being able to get up close to the dock ... which translated into more accurate placement and a longer "shot" beneath the dock. But, that was when I was already using 5' rods for casting purposes & just starting to shoot docks. I have used 7 & 8ft rods before, but their "action" wasn't really suitable for dock shooting IMHO. I just tried it to see if it could be done. Once I started using the 6'6" ESP rod for casting, it was an easy transition over to shooting docks with it.
The biggest "disadvantage" I found with the shorter rods was hook setting .... since the shorter rods, even with very fast action tips, did not take up enough slack on the hookset without a whole lot of extra arm movement. Same with even the 7' parabolic bend rod, since I had to raise my arms more to compensate for the large bend of the rod (Sam Heaton Sig Series). The rods with the faster action tips load up faster, thus putting more power into the hookset ... while the 6'6" rod length allows me to jerk the rod back to my face, rather than over my head, to take up the slack (& line stretch).
I have a dozen dock shooting rods looking for the best out there. By far Ozark Dock rod is best
I could never learn to shoot a seven foot rod. I am alot more accurate with a 5.5 or 6 footer. For me dock shooting is more about precision than distance.
Well, I have a 6'6" All Star Classic Dock Shooter in med light action and I love it! It was around $50 at Academy and i also use it for just straight Jigging and jig fishing. Sensitive and light I paired it with a Lew's Mach 3, I think in a size 10. Has turned out to be my favorite rod and reel combo and I'm going after another when the ol' tax check hits the bank next week... :fish
Check out the Marksman 6.0 by Jenko. It's a great feeling and performing rod.
Wally Marshall 7' Pro Series or Speedshooter. Found out I was more accurate with the 7' rod and could shoot it further with less effort.
I really like the pro series more than the Speedshooter, Pro Series has cork handle which I prefer. Speedshooter has diffrent style guides which are supposed to help casting distance but I haven't seen much difference. By far the 7' Pro series is my favorite rod, not just for dock shooting but casting and vertical jigging as well. Great rod for $50 IMO.
Yes, that's the one!
Roy, Is there a real difference in the actions of the Pro and Speed Shooter rods? One shows M and the other shows F.
The actions on both are the same to me. They are both med light with fast tip. Speedshooter have wave guides and foam handle while pro had traditional guides and cork handle
Wally Marshall SpeedShooter in 7' has been good for me
I figure I'll be trying the pro series. I just can't get around that blue/green color combo even though that says nothing about the rod's performance, lol. Guess I'm just old fashioned.
I have the Proangler 6.6 and it does a great job. I do not want to highjack thread but to be honest Proangler rods are all I have. 10 footers and 12 footers for spider rigging and the 8 footers are excellent for long lining out the back. they are just great folks to work with
Jamey, if I ever get up there I want to teach me how. I go to Pickwick occasionally.

Luckily, I was able to look at a 6' Pro Series yesterday and didn't care for the action. Tip wasn't fast enough for my liking. Light weight and well balanced rod though. I'll either have to get used to the wild colors on the Speedshooter, or look elsewhere.
Academy Sports carries All Star rods and they have the AS Panfish Shooter rod for $50.00. Great rods made in the good ol’ USA.

I have 2 bnm sharpshooter 6 and they work very well. I also have a ozark dock shooter that is a little stronger backbone and it works well. I have a wally 5ft 6inch speedshooter that I use to shoot pondtoon boats. Its just what you like and get used to, if you shoot enough you can do well with most any good rod.
Good luck with the WM, mine lasted 3 trips.

Wally Marshall is a lews product and my experience with the warranty guys was very good. I had problems with their spinning reels and they did all they could do to make me happy. They just had a bad design with the bail spring. I have a 7ft wm signature rod that is about 4years old and no problem. I don't use it much now, have 2lb line with light jigs 1/48 and 1/64 on it. It will shoot light jigs very well. Still what you it use to.
