Billy sent me these a couple of years ago, and I fished them... They got chewed up!
With only 3 left I figured I better do something about it!
Plus I needed some practice on "Reverse engineering" some baits...I got some micro bugs I want to build

I owe it all To You guys... BILLYGEE,BOB AND JACKIE.... ALL YOU GUYS HAVE ENCOURAGED ME You guys encouraged me to adventure into this... and wicklundrh didn't hurt either It's been a long time coming and I think I may never buy an ally mold cuz It's too much fun building a "lowly P.O.P. mold" that produces baits that will catch fish....I just have to settle down and decide whether or not I want to build "GATOR BAITS" or Crappie baits.... I like it here.... I hope when I grow into the baits I want to build that all you guys will still deal with me!

Since there are so many "Fine" features on these guys (Little hairs on the legs and the little legs) I figured I'd need some extra time so I mixed the plaster wet and add a BOATLOAD of glue...
Noticed right away that the mold looked kinda FIZZY....Lots of really tiny air bubbles
Tapped it for prolly 3 minutes and kept poking bubbles
Finally got to where I could tweezer and toothpick them in
The 1st in kept sinking, so had to pull him up with a sewing needle
Finally got them all in, but lost some details that just couldn't keep apart (The little Hairs) that's OK those can be carved in later!

Look closer... Plaster is still fizzing
Off to the stove it went to stay nice and warm...
Sitting on the front of the furnace It was in a warm and safe place
after a few hours It felt warm to the touch...( Damp Plaster feels cool because of convection) this felt warm
so the sides got trimmed...
turned it over to pop it out....BEFORE I WAS SEATED so it could fall into my lap

I just realized I put these last couple of posts in the WRONG thread!!!
Can a mod move them to "I like bugs" ?
the smaller you go the more tedious it gets :(
Since I haven't been involved with p.o.p. for awhile in my past dealings with it
I found it best to try small blends of what ever glue or bonding liquid with p.o.p in a small batch to determine it's bonding characteristic,
as some may cause it to crumble.
I used plain white Elmer's Glue, then would seal it with Epoxy, for there are many different idea's on sealing after the mold curing.
Just a little insight what worked for me

It popped out of the container hit my lap and crumbled
The camera doesn't show how porous...looks like a shook can of soda foamy
Had that similar problem.
couple things I found to lesson the so called foaming:
try just using a small dowel instead of a beater to stir instead of a whip,
add a little more water to slow down the curing as a fast cure will capture more air resulting in a lot of tiny bubbles, again it's A TRIAL AND ERROR getting the right consistency, that's why I did a lot of small cube batches before I would pour a mold.
in doing so I would pour the p.o.p from the side of the container for a more even flow watching for bubbles.

Do you guys know anybody that has a oven for baking clay because after you put the glaze on the and bake it you won't have any more problems I did do this with the local lady and made some warm molds they work fine but one day I was cleaning and they fell off the shelf and that was the end of them.
Just an added feature that I recall doing was to sift the p.o.p when I was dealing with small legged bugs, may sound a little to extreme but the end result showed the difference.
I only made a cube mold for one to three bugs at the most which having better outcomes.
the last was went to using a petroleum jelly for a better release factor instead of worm oil and at times used both.
Now here again from remembrance this seemed to work for me. :)

This is the 1st time it's happened, I think it was a combo of way too much water and glue
This time I'm just going to use my regular plaster mix and let the chips fall where they may

Bob, I have a dedicated pizza oven in the shop for baking molds and masters...Unless I'm REALLY drunk that's all I use it for
Billy, I have some of that clay and you got that right! too stiff for the little parts...
How come you don’t use Apoxsee you can take Half of a plastic bait in Lay it down on the table or a surface and pour the Apoxsee and let it harden and pull the plastic bait way just an ideal if you were wanting a half of a plastic bait let me know . This would come out of my injection molds they would be per Syse 100% if I get time I will buy a small amount of Apoxsee and try .

I have some for my Hard baits...That would be a REALLY EXPENSIVE MOLD... well to me anyway about 20 bux for 8 1/2 oz.
Used epoxy thinned with rubbing alcohol to seal a few molds but glue works just as well AND I'M NOT COVERED IN IT!!!
