Lowrance game changer???
Rickie
:popcornI love to see the new stuff coming out because the older stuff will be out on the market afterwards. I have also noticed that the new sonars have really came down in price from what sonars were 3 or 4 years ago. Hard to believe they can make something better than what is already out there. Thanks for keeping us informed Rickie.:ThumbsUp
Agree. Bought a new Lowrance LCX-19C for my Ranger when I retired. Best thing going at the time. Over 2k. My Garmin 93sv chirp does 10 times what it did, does it better and at less than half the cost. Others have come a long way too. Wish new trucks were like that.
I am not buying anything else as I cannot afford it with the medical bills I have in treating my fishing addiction. I have too many doctor and pill bills caused by this forum also. I blame Slab, BillBob, and all you members! :Rofl Doctors tell me only cure is to go fishing. :biggrin
I am curious what they will be adding. Before long will be able to sit in the recliner and fish any lake in the world threw virtual reality.

Lowrance better do something if they want to keep up with the Megas! :cheers2
Stuff is always gonna be a comin.....it is going to come faster and more often as days go by. Even though I have a technical background.....with years of schools....I am in complete awe of how fast advances are happening in consumer electronics. I think in the next couple of years Moore’s law will be....well.....no longer Moore’s law....LOL. Maybe when they create the new parameters of how often transistors can double on an integrated circuit they may in respect to Moore....call it Moore’s law II.....LOL. Amazing times we live in.

Looking forward to seeing more information and pictures. I LOVE my Helix Mega, interested to see what other companies do to compete. As stated, interesting times.
I love my Mega units, but will say that does look pretty cool. When I had gen3 units, they had a "structure overlay" (I think it was called) where you could kinda combine down imaging and sonar returns. I never found it useful, and most others didn't either. But it kinda looks like they doing a sort of "chirp/fish overlay" with it now. That would be much more useful especially for fish hugging the bottom. It will be neat to see how well this works. They have had a few "game changers" that looked real good on their marketing screen shots that just didn't pan out. I have no plans to change, but new ideas and the competition will be good for everyone... no mater the brand.
I suppose thier saving the fish reveal for side scan for the Carbon 2 for the next "Game Changer" these company's are really good at keeping us:ThumbsUp:ThumbsUp fisher people hooked.lol
Pretty soon you will be able to find the fish and using your touch screen just touch it and it will jump in the boat!!:Rofl
Kind of funny in a sad way, how this is just software. The head units shouldn't cost much to make in relation to the MSRP. I wonder how much this software development cost them.
Good “Code Toads” don’t come cheap.

Almost looks like they integrated some of the chirp 2D into a down scan image. One of the things about DI is that the fish often look like small dots.
If you look at some of the images with 2D side by side with the fish reveal .... the fish look almost identical on the reveal as they do on the 2D....but with the greater detail of the structure you get with DI.
I SURE HOPE DON G GETS THAT ON HIS BOAT,THAT WILL PROABLY BE THE ONLY WAY I WILL SEE IT:Rofl
You guys keep watching the discussion at BBC that I linked in the OP ...
This is where is best info will be for the new features ...
Rickie
Would be nice to get it over here if/when possible. Some here don't go over that way
Ya, some of the Lowrance members there arent here apparently
We do not have as many Lowrance pro staff as regular contributors as BBC ...
Rickie
its pretty simple. buy a carbon and have it all.
I dont know that I would say keep up. Both have their perks. Our tourney boat has both. With the lowrance, you just plug, turn on, and go. With the 'bird there is a lot of trial and error with tweaking settings.Attachment 290144Attachment 290146

I agree, was not really impressed with the mega the couple times I've been around one.Scanning structure is a little brighter but I can tell what it is with my lss1 because I know what I'm looking at from spending time on the water. The mega will make fish stand out better when scanning though, haven't payed much attention to the down imaging ,usually scanning when in my buddies boat. They mega would probably help a novice though, but someone who has experience and spent time on the water it wouldn't be worth the extra money to me,just my opinion.

I dont think I really said that the way I meant to. When all settings are correct the HB Mega will blow everything else out of the water, hands down no question about it. We have had lss1 totalscan and now have lss2 3D structure scan on hds carbons. Anybody can turn them on in auto and get to it. They just work. Have never had the first bit of interference and aside from some overly complicated networking issues they work perfectly. We had gen3 hds prior to the carbons and they worked just as well, diplays weren't as sharp. We added a HB Solix 12 at the bow just for the 360. When we found out the Base model solix supported Mega DI we ordered the transducer for it(3 weeks ago). We have had issues from day 1 with the HB system. Interference being the biggest issue, even though its wired side by side with the Lowrance system.
I dont think the HB system would be any kind of benefit to a novice. You absolutely have to know how all of it works to get the most out of it. I guarantee everyone of us has bought a fish finder at somepoint and gotten mad because the images didn't look like those on the box. I know I have. The first time I turned on that hds gen3, I filled a memory card full of screenshots because I couldnt believe it.
Anyway sorry so long, but long story short...
Humminbird better if you know how/when to tweak settings.
Lowrance better for set it and forget it.

I love my birds, to me they are very simple to operate and tweak as compared to Lowrance, others say the same about their Lowrance as compared to Humminbird. Great thing about it we all get to choose what works best for us. As far as Mega images are concerned Humminbird is leading, will be interesting to see what improvements Lowrance has come up with. In the end we all end up with better units.
Semo,
Super nice setup you have! WOW!
The reason I said better for a novice with the mega was because the brighter return of structure on side scan.If you use your unit 455 works well in my opinion if you've spent time on the water to learn how to use it.Learnung how to use what you have us the most important part and I pretty proficient with both.

You can get the same brightness of return at 455 and 800. You just dont have the fine detail. Its amazing to me the zoom window on the solix with mega. You can zoom into a blob of branches and make out individual fish. The target seperation is awesome with mega

Yep,I agree with target seperation, make fish stand out,I mentioned that above.Thats the only thing that really impresses me about mega.Finding structure though I believe I can do just as good with 455.Never been around a solid though, don't know alot about them.Ive been around helix 12 gen 1 and gen 2
megas, fishing partners have them on there boat.I run hds 10 gen2 at console,touch9 and helix 10 with 360 at the bow, that's the only units I have been aound. Most people in my area that own them don't even have a clue how to usethem,I have spent entire days and never touched a rod. After you scan you have to find a way to organize waypoints, that's where a touch unit up front cones in handy.

Oh no, not mine. I have a tracker. My fishing partners boat, I just take care of all the tech stuff in our operation. I've spent the past year burning my brain out on all this new technology. What I thought I knew has totally changed. I could write a book about HB amd Lw now

more info.
I like the 3D enhancement....should make it even better for reading bottom hardness and contours
Do you have 3D. Thats the onenthing about all of our system that I have never been able to get to work right. Its like no matter what I scan its always the same. Kimda gave up on it and just use down on one unit and side on the other

I had it but sold it before getting the chance to try it.
