I am just finishing up my new to me pontoon. I installed a 36 volt ultera on it and I have never tried it so today I tried it out and guess what it want work. Could not get it to do anything. I checked voltage at the plug and it was 38 volts. Every time I try to get it to deploy it shows a motor error. Called the. Crappie hole and it will be 2 weeks before he can look at it. So tomorrow I am calling minn Kota and see if they can help. Really stinks :pray

Sorry to hear that. Now my new one has to be turned on at the motor. It had me stumped because my old one came on automatic.

Is it powering up when you push the power button at the base of the trolling motor? As mentioned above, it has to be manually powered on at the start of each fishing day. If it is powering on, have you been able to pair your remote to it? Until the remote is paired to the motor, it will not do anything. Once it is paired, you can test the system by double tapping the deploy button. It should start to deploy then as soon as it starts, hit the stow button one tap to stop it from deploying. I've got 3 of the newest generation Ultera's and had 2 of the old generation ones and they were all trouble free once I learned how to use them.
Also, 38 volts for a fully charged battery bank seems fairly low. It should be closer to 39.3 or higher for fully charged AGM batteries.
Hey 91 tiger with posts like the one you just posted you will make a lot of friends on CDC. Just for your info this is my third ultera I also have one on my walleye boat. It has been trouble free. The newest models do not have to be learned they are done at the factory.
Hope it is just out of time and they can walk you through that. Mine did the same after loosing power while deploying, talking about a pain in the rear!!!! fished a tourney with a half deployed trolling motor in 3 foot rollers and won the tourney, fondest memory so far in my tourney fishing days and doubt it will ever be topped.
When you call don't take no crap, they tried to put me off to a local service rep and I told them I needed it going now.

Have you tried pulling on the foot of the motor? If it got bumped or pushed way up it the cradle it will get the same error.
Are you being serious that my post in some way was offensive? If so I would really appreciate you pointing out which part of it because it certainly wasn’t my intention. The poor guy just put a ton of money into a brand new trolling motor and is asking for help or recommendations in getting it going. That’s what I was trying to provide. I honestly was trying to be helpful and I would really like to know what I said that didn’t appear that way.Quote:

As far as not having to Pair the remote, they may be doing that from the factory now but it is still something that would be worth trying. I have several spare remotes and they have to be paired to the motor, I have no idea if the one that came in the box needs to be initially paired of not, but once again it’s something I would check.
Check your inline fuse, or breaker box!
91tiger if you paid attention to my post you would have read that this is not my first one so it could be possible that I am familiar with the operation of the ultera motors.
Well I have done everything that I know how to do and everything the manual says to do so it is something internal that will not let it deploy. Called minnkota and they were no help so I have to wait on the crappie hole to look at it. Thanks fellas for your reply
Sounds like u got a dud, buy the extended warranty, saved me 500$

I apologize for offending you sir, I can assure you it was not my intent. You are exactly right, I read your first post saying you had just installed a new Ulterra and couldn't get it to do anything. So I was simply trying to offer some basic start up tips for someone who had never used an Ulterra before. I was also trying to be encouraging saying I have had several and they had been good units. I personally would like to know that if I had a new unit and it was giving me trouble out of the box, that it is not a chronic issue. But it is obvious that you are a seasoned veteran in using these motors so please disregard. Once again I appologize for offending you. Good luck in resolving your issue.

I am going to call a place over by Greenwood tomorrow and see if they can look at it. I hate waiting two weeks on the crappie hole. It is bugging the crap out of me to spend $2500.00 on a trolling motor and it not work.

Don, sorry your Ulterra is on the blink. Boat Sales of Lake Wylie, 803-631-5432 has a certified repair man there. Just a thought maybe if all fails use this as last resort. Good luck on a quick repair. I hope it is something simple:popcorn
Thanks for all the suggestions but none helped. I took it to Greenwood this morning and had it fixed. It had a pinched wire on the left side magnet that I missed. He repaired it and it is back on the boat. So relieved it was nothing major.
Glad you got it fixed. Now.go catch some slabs!

Glad you got it fixed. Sometimes I think the manufacturer needs to pay YOU for the trouble we have to go thru when something brand new doesn't work when you get it. It just doesn't work that way though. On one of the I-pilot TM's I bought it had to go back to Greenville 2 times.........on my dime.:( Still......they the best thing going IMO though.
Don, you might remember me having problems getting a DF to work with the Ipilot transducer. I had gotten a new HB Helix and the picture was all snowy. It had worked fine on an older unit. I was at the point of putting an external transducer on the TM but I decided to pull the cover off the top of the Ipilot and I found the TM has a connection under the cover and it had worked loose. Probably wasn't snugged tight at the assembly plant and over time it came loose. Those simple things can drive you nuts sometimes. Glad that is all it was.Quote:

Along the same lines. I went down to Cane Creek Park to try for some Crappie. Launched the boat, Anchor locked it, parked the truck, retrieved the boat found I didn't have the keys for the big motor and anchor loved the boat went back to then truck retrieved the boa and started to move away from the dock, the Ulterra wouldn't turn. So I though I'd crank the big motor, it wouldn't start I'm drifting away from the dock still thinking the motor would start, it fired a couple times but wouldn't stay running. I got the paddle out and made it back to the dock. Note to self get a longer paddle.

Got he loaded and went home. After it warmed up a bit I went out to see if the batteries were dead or? Batteries were fine, both at 13.6 volts, found two wing nuts that were loose, Tightened them up and it will deploy so I guess it's fixed.
I'll make someone a deal on a couple dozen un trained minnows.
Never had these problems with my 14" jon boat and the 6 hp motor, no sonar
Yeah Grady the more we spend on toys the more they cost and the more problems we can have with them. But I love my ultera motors and I would not trade for anything else. I never take the keys out of my boat.
I always leave the key in the boat. If someone drives off with my boat they may as well have the keys to.

Well at my age and mental capacity I have to do everything I can do to minimize my screw ups. I can do enough damage when everything is going okay.
Hey Grady, saw a picture of a crappie pulled out of dogwood park. Maybe you could sneak out and drown some of those left over minnows.
