Started at ramp was 16 degrees fished all day. I think there mouth was froze shut. Couldn't even get a white perch to bite a hook , I marked a lot of fish but no takers. Met up with reel smoke today had a good chat , I have to say I have met some really nice people on this cdc web site.
Them hybirds have to feed sometime I just hope I'm there when they do it.

I think later next week when it warms up some them fish will come back up some, if that water warms up some that bait will come up in the water column ...

In my 12ish years of fishing LKN, ive never seen it consistently this cold....
Looking ahead at the forecast, they will be wide open next week, and ill be hitting them hard..

The fish are scattered all over the lake. I have seen birds flying from Buffalo Shoals bridge to Mountain Island in the last week. None of the birds were working the water very hard. They can see the fish but none of them are schooled up like they were in December. Normally this time of the year the bait congregate at the hot hole but they are scattered also. I am still catching a few fish everyday I go out. I plan on fishing next week also. I caught this 25 inch 10 lb large mouth Tuesday before the snow started.Attachment 286553

I thought it may be a spot because of where I caught it but going by the dorsal fin not being completely connected, white belly, size of mouth and size of fish I believe it is a largemouth. If it was a spot it would be a record as the record for a spot in nc is 6.5 LBS. I think that the largemouth and spots cross breed some in Norman.
Maybe it has to do with where I fish on Norman, but I catch maybe 1 largemouth to every 150 spots. The markings near the eyes have a look of a spot to me. Can you put your fist in the mouth of that fish? If a largemouth, it should be really easy. If a spot, I'd say it would be tight if at all. I can't tell much about the connect on the dorsals. Norman is a great place to catch the next record spot.

I think I could have put both my fist in its mouth. It looked like a bucket when its mouth was open. Norman is were the NC record came from. I help the wildlife guys tag hybrids. They told me most of the largemouth are north of 150 bridge. There were 500 hybrids tagged in 2017.
Spots have 2 teeth on tongue.
Nice fish whatever it is to me. Hope you caught the record. Tks for helping tag those hybirds I caught one of them suckers a couple weeks ago still any got my money. Called them and they said they cut checks on Mondays and they've had 2 holidays and all the weather to deal with so hopefully it will get cut tomorrow.
