I saw that. My set-up won't be that involved. I plan to experiment using the trolling rods I have. The boards I have are made by a guy in Tennessee. They are Crappie Reaper Planer Boards. The guys up there I spoke with say that you can successfully pull the boards with the equipment you longline with or you can use rods all the same length or any length for that matter. I experimented with them one day last week and I can see the advantages. I can also see some of the disadvantages but I believe they can be overcome if you have a fishing partner to help land the fish. The Tenn. guys say when the water warms up to 50 degrees in late winter they start pulling the boards. They are particularly effective for targeting fish in shallow water near shorelines and such during pre/post spawn. Apparently they are less effective when the fish are in the woods. Maybe one of the Tenn. guys will see this post and chime in with more info.
Hotwater, In my experience with planer boards from 35+ striper fishing I would say you need to get them farther away from your boat. I was watching you last week and that's the only suggestion I would make. The rods you have should work. You are right, planer boards are a 2 man proposition.
I need to get some of the boards. Can you pm his info?
Send a pm to tenncrappie. This is his bread and butter in the late winter/ early spring. He also makes and sells the boards. I bought some from him and they are good quality. However, I have learned that I don’t have the patience to troll. The inevitable tangles drive me batty! Maybe it’s because I’m not good at it!
I would also like some info on the boards please.
Thanks,
Jim
Never done this before would like to try it

I will answer any questions you have on planner boards but would really like to get with Hotwater sometime this spring and make a video of how, why, when, where of all your questions. Hotwater and I have talked about getting together so stay tuned. Once you learn how to do this the wife will see you a lot less. It is insane how many fish you catch. PM me if you have any questions.

Here is a video I made last year with my son playing with my GoPro.

Thanks so much for the video. I’ve had many conversations with Tenncrappie I have 4 boards still in the packages my rod holders won’t get the rods to point up. I’m in process of modifying something to set them in the up position. The guy said it’s backwards to the longline trolling the longest rod is the back rod and progressively shorter rods as you go to the fron rod. The video shows the lines way up not touching the water. That is very important. Great video. Only issue I see is if your in a creek or that gets crowded like they do. People just don’t respect your line. Cut u off etc.
Never had that much a problem if it gets crowded just shorten your lines. Most guy's around here are pretty respectful when pulling boards but every now and then you have one that causes everyone problem when they are fishing.
