Looks like warranty is usually 1 year and limited to original retail purchaser.

I read this on another web site. But makes a lots of sense. Now I think this applies to Humminbird. I don't know about the other manufactories units.
"Warranty does not "transfer". It is for the original owner with original receipt.
New unit= warranty, used unit= no warranty.
"Anyone can update any unit, just need the software.
Registering has nothing to do with warranty, it's an account to get access to software for the unit."
To get software, you do not have to own the unit, just need to register it. Anyone that has any unit can register it to get the software.
Anyone can register any unit anytime."
Now a way around this is if the person you were buying from would send it back to Humminbird for in warranty repair no one would be the wiser.:twocents
Scrat is spot on
Uhhhh. Call Hummingbird. .
If the unit was registered your warranty will be good until it ends. They don’t transfer warranties. You just use the serial number of the unit. They will make it good if it’s still in the warranty period. Just say you’re the original buyer with a change of address. No Problems as long as you use the original purchasers name.
NEVER register stuff like that unless you need to repair it. To easy to get a receipt from your buddies to extend the warranty. When you register it, the clock starts ticking for the manufacturer. That’s why they offer rebates to trick you into registering the unit so the warranty will run out ASAP. Usually any warranty issue will be found right off the bat. After 2-3 years, most of this stuff is virtually obsolete. [emoji23][emoji23]

I have two HB units that Ive never registered. one of them is almost 2 years old and the other is about 3 or 4 years old....should I register? or is it to late? one other question.....is there any reason I would need to update the units software? I wouldnt know of any updates that are needed but I hear of ppl updating theirs.
Thanks Bill, makes sense . Their had to be a reason so many would buy used .
