redneck exhaust system
it gets cold up here in wisconsin...so cold that if i turn on the big exhaust fan, it removes all semblance of heat from the shop in about 2 minutes flat.
i decided to make a smaller exhaust system and remove the big one altogether. it works much better, much quieter. centered it over my machine and the fumes rise right into it, but it can be raised or lowered with the chains that hang it.
this was accomplished by mounting a broan bathroom exhaust fan inside a steel garbage can. drilled two holes to hold the chains to hang it...made the cover for the old fan cavity in the window(insulated behind it). ran the flex tube to it and got back to work pouring.
very pleased with the efficiency of it, and much quieter to boot.

Well guys the garbage can thing did not work out exactly as planned for me most of the smoke were going around the garbage can up to my ceiling so I disconnected the garbage can and decided to put the exhaust fan directly on the ceiling to see what would happen it work better and it takes all the smoke out of the room just fine mostly it was a fine whirly missed that was in the air mainly what I wanted to get rid of and it did so just beautiful so now I'm out $19 for a garbage can with a hole in it:yikes but we will find something to do WITH IT. MY SHOP AREAS NOT VERY BIG I BELIEVE THE BUILDING IS 16 BY 20 AREAS A COUPLE OF PICTURES OF THE GARBAGE CAN WITH THE BIG HOLE IN IT .

x2. I did one similar in 2016 but without the trash can so that I could move the vent fan closer to what I’m cooking. The vent fan is within a foot of my Pyrex. Works very well and quiet. Here is a link just to give more ideas:
