BBD ... can you copy/paste that info to this thread ?? One would have to join the FB group to read it, otherwise.
Ok, I was able to download the video to my youtube channel...too much thinking and my brain hurts!!

Is this Adam Martin doing narration?
Thanks for posting that Rich.
How many other states represented here in Crappie.com have F&W depts that are
addressing both Asian carp and how they relate to Crappie?
We are very lucky to have the dedicated officers we have who are willing to publicize the findings of their work. Great job guys.

Interesting video, full of info!
This is from our local office’s Facebook page. We were very happy that the folks in Frankfort let us try this social media project and so far weve been pleased with the results. It’s an incredible way to reach people. So far that video has been viewed about 6,000 times. Btw. Just got the ky lake Creel results analyzed today. It will take me a while to digest the results and prepare some figures, but I will try to make a post on here about the crappie results soon.
Hey Adam. I dropped a bone about the shallow water habitat program in my latest fishing report on Explore KY Lake.com. I didn't put your cell number. I hope the office number was correct.
Great, yes that’s the correct number. I’ll post our recycled tree drop off sites on here as well. The big box stores are selling them like crazy this year so I don’t expect too many donations from them. Hopefully we will get plenty of recycled trees.
Thanks for sharing.. good info and much more optimistic than i expected
Adam, you could contact John Miller with Marshall County Refuse Dept and see if they could have a set-aside place at the county refuse sites.

This is a list of our drop off sites this year. I have previously contacted most of the big box stores in our area, all of whom were very willing to donate unsold trees. Additionally the corps plans to collect some trees as well so we are going to partner with them on this project. Most stores expect to sell out, but we will collect as many as we can. Ky dam village horse stables is also a dropoff location. If we don't get a sizable number of trees we will supplement with freshly cut trees. Because of the potential corps partnership this year's trees will very likely be placed into lake barkley.
Martin,
That was some good information. Do you guys supply this type of information with regards to some of the other fish in the lakes like bass, etc?
Our information has always been available, but in the past has only been presented to the public at public meetings. I think Paul did several thousand presentations in his career. With the new fb page we will be trying to get all of this information out there to our anglers. My hope is that our anglers are the most informed group of anglers in the country. It won’t all be good news.
I will post on Sunday about ky lake crappie including the results of the Creel this year. After that i will start with bass on both lakes. We record every species of fish caught in the Creel survey so we could spend hours just explaining that one survey.
One more thing I need to mention about the Barkley crappie video linked above. The age 1 crappie in 2017 was much lower than that graph showed. The graph was formatted incorrectly so it plotted the long term average instead of the actual 2017 data. It doesn’t change the take home message, but it does mean that the spawn in 2016 was awful. Same story in ky lake. When I post on Sunday I’ll start with a corrected Barkley graph before moving on to ky. We triple check our data for our annual reports so I noticed the mistake on Friday.
Unfortunately I’m not allowed to start a department YouTube channel, but if you guys want to keep transferring it there and posting it here that would be great.
I already like your style, Adam.
The Kentucky River is full of them.
A guy here in Perry Park runs a guide service for bow fishing.
Note: We took our tree to the Lyon County Convenient Center and was told that they would take the tree but that it wasn't for the lake project. Being that I needed to get rid of it, I went ahead and tossed it in their dumpster.
Just found it odd that the fella working there told me that he wasn't taking trees for this project. Maybe he was uninformed? As it stands, he made me toss it in their Big dumpster.
Thanks for the heads up. It’s a new site and we had a failure to communicate which has been resolved. Lyon county convenience center should now be accepting trees. I’ll let you know if that changes. Adding the cabin bait and tackle as an alternate site next year probably wouldn’t be a bad idea🤔.
We have also arranged to get all of the Christmas trees donated in our southwest fisheries district (bowling green area). So we should have a pretty sizable number of trees for the project.
While looking at the video and seeing the graphs, do we have an idea when the Asian carp invaded?

The first Silver carp ever collected in the lake was in 2004. However, the first invaders probably entered through the locks in the late 90's. There was a spawn in the tailwaters and possibly the lake in 2010. (no juveniles were observed in the lake, but its possible). They also spawned successfully in the tailwaters in 2015 (in 2015 juveniles were observed in the lake, but the jury is still out on whether they actually successfully spawned in the lake). The vast majority of silvers in the lake right now are from 2015. There is some research being conducted right now to help determine the exact origin of some of the juveniles observed in the lake in 2015. (its called otolith microchemistry: basically the otoliths are removed, cut in half to expose to oldest center portion and then that portion is burned with a tiny laser and the gases given off are analyzed for the proportions of certain molecules). Its a bit technical but it can tell you what the water chemistry was like at the time that part of the otolith formed. Because each water body has slightly different water chemistry, that water chemistry data can then be used to determine which water body or area of a water body the fish was swimming in at the time that part of the otolith was formed.
Adam,
can you comment on the possibility of another large silver carp kill from the cold weather? As nasty as the kill was last year for property owners on the lake, it did give many of us hope that some kind of biological event could take out huge numbers of them like the kills below the dams a few years ago.
I worry about shad kills from the cold water temps. We don't need to lose any of them.
Another large carp kill is certainly possible this year. However, the possibility of the same type of large kill will go up if we see a warmer winter rather than a cold one. Warmer water will increase the fish's metabolism and increase the likelihood of bacterial infections. Any prediction about that would be a guess at best, but my educated guess is that yes, a large spring carp kill is likely.
