I crafted some small spoons for the hard water Gill season.
The components used: #1 willow spinner, #14 hook, and rubber skirt material. The spoons are weighted with solder and are 1/32 once.
The unskirted versions are used with live bait(Spikes) The skirted versions are used bare bones or with piece of power bait or a piece of a power wiggler.

Hey, Skip. Those baits look great. I really admire your skill in making baits.
Crappiewrangler, a good friend, makes a very similar bait that just kills the crappie and a lot of other species on Texoma. He has a lot of posts on the Texoma 2017 thread on the Oklahoma state site, including step by step on how to make them. He only does one color, chartreuse/white, with sparkle. He doesn't sell them, but he gave me a few. I took some up to Montana this past summer, and they killed the trout better than any other lure, spoon, spinner, or live bait. Kept a limit and released 120 one day at a mountain lake, when others fishing from the bank, boats, and kayaks were catching zero to maybe 10 or so.

Some nice looking baits
Love those spoons. Trying to make them but having a horrible time putting the hole in the other end. Any advice would be much appreciated.
I use a willow spinner which already has one hole. I then use a center punch or prick punch to mark the hole. I then use a 1/16 inch drill bit in my drill press to make the second hole.Quote:

Well I answered my question (partly). Block of oak with a depression to accommodate the spoon, took a shell with solder in it and laid into the spoon I was working on and clamped it. Held solid I was then able to drill it a little easier. Not great. Hopefully some one will devise a better way. I reall like the spoon.

I don't think you will be disappointed with the lures. I have been using them the last few days and they are working quite well. The #1 green spinner is producing Gills from 5 to 9 inches. The #2 pink/white spinner has produced crappies from 7 to 13 inches. A lot medium sized fish with Lunker every Attachment 285511Attachment 285511once in a while.Quote:

Lots of guys are making them here in Oklahoma, and one guy sold 300 of them in one day at the dock last winter. I got some off of Ebay. A good friend of mine makes some great ones (chartreuse/white w/sparkle) , but he doesn't sell them.
I use a rosin past flux to prep the blades and use either 40/60 or 50/50 solid core solder. I then clean the blades with isopropyl alcohol to prep for painting.Quote:

If by chance acid core solder is used the acid must be neutralized with soda and water. Not doing so will cause paint failure or corroded metal finishes.
