what do you mean by dig in anchors?
I have always just used mushroom type anchors. I always figured the dig in type could get under a root or hung in a stump or log and I would have to just cut the rope anyway.:twocents
yup, when i use my anchor i use the mushroom also.
I don't have much luck with anchors but most of them are on rental pontoons or fishing boats.
Being a frequent anchor fisherman, I am partial to fluke style slip ring anchors. The are light in weight, hold in quite a variety of bottom content. Yes, they can and probably will get hung on a stump. But that's the beauty of these anchors; all you have to do is to let out about another 1/2 length of line, then do a semi-circle around the hang up with the boat and get up to the up side of the hang. Then just pull it free. The slip ring will accomplish this task each and every time. Have the same anchor I purchased over 10 years ago. I also use a 4' length of chain between the anchor and the rope. Will never go with any other style. Inexpensive too!
I've used anchor poles for a few years now, along with a homemade drop anchor,( a 10" industrial bolt with an attachment welded to one end.) I fish from a nucanoe,in deep and shallow water,my anchor pole is a 6-12' painters extention pole from lowes, works like a charm.
I have a collection of anchors. They were retrieved from some of the shallow water brush I dropped. My Brenda uses them to hold down the picnic table cloth. Great use for an anchor.
Thats alot of money for a metal tube and spike.
Ah, those type. Nope and probable won't. I typically don't anchor in shallow water. I usually anchor in 20' or deeper. Now that I have spotlock on my trolling motor, I only use my anchors on gusty days. If the wind is pretty consistent, the spot lock does a great job, even though it is first generation.
Can you say Spotlock?:twocents
If you want a great anchor that you can always get back and believe me some can get hung up and you never see them again, lol! Anyway get a Chene Anchor, it's the best possible IMHO!
