I have a two year old terrova which I really like! However I have a deep v boat which gets pushed around by the wind easily, I use the first generation spot lock a lot but it doesn’t keep me on top of a brush pile. Has anyone switched to the newer version? If so what are your opinions

Don’t mean to be a downer but my new Ulterra has been problematic since I bought it concerning spot lock. Minn Kota Service center rebuilt it as several moving parts malfunctioned. It has had three control heads and does every thing except spot lock well. I may have bought a lemon but I don’t consider investing $2,500 for trolling motor, batteries, bank charger, installation (twice as it was rewired with larger gauge wire), and week’s of downside plus spot lock varying 10+ feet to be a good investment. Just saying...

Have an Ultrex with spotlock, best thing since sliced bread. Foot pedal and remote, best of both worlds imo.
No complaints with my Ultrex..... Just awesome!!

I will buy one when they fix the shaft to accept a transducer cable.... what a pain to have to fight your cable all the time...

Yes sir, stows and deploys just like a trolling motor, can be mounted easily and wherever fits your boat, doesn’t take up much space either, also it keeps the transducer pointed in fixed position so when I turn the trolling motor I still see images correctly in relationship to boatQuote:

I can’t say, I only have a terrova, I don’t use the groove on the shaft, I use the da-ducer , I like the transducer pointing forward not spinning with my trolling motorQuote:

The uktrex DOES have a groove, but I didn't use it. The mega transducer cable is thick and does not sit below the top of the groove. I just attached mine down one side of the shaft so that it would not rub anywhere. With an Ultrex, you can run a transducer cable just like you can on regular cable steer trolling motors. The motor will not keep spinning around and around. So you just have to leave enough slack, or loop, to allow the motor to do fully left and right.
A lot fewer crappie in Cumberland thanks to Ultrex spot lock
