In the early spring/late winter when do the crappie began moving up into the creeks?
Looking back through pictures from last year on my phone. The Crappie where spawning the last couple weeks in March. I would say they start heading up the creeks in late February, soon as the water temps start to rise. Hope this helps.
So, what seems to be the average winter water temp?

Normally the last of February crappie are holding in the flats and edge of the channels. They don't all move in at the same time; in other words they're scattered. It's a good time to fish D'Arbonne.

I can clarify a little bit, when I said we, there are a dozen or so boats and about 2 dozen fishermen and fisherwomen invading from the north! Kentucky, Illinois, and Missouri! We all have cabins at the state park booked already, but thank you for the intel on a roof for over our heads! Cant wait, got 102 days until we depart! Ya'll save enough for us!

Slow trolling with a spider rig is very productive. I also long line some of the flats; just be ready to lose some jigs.

Keep an eye on thenewsstar.com, in the sports section, local paper that has a fishing report most Thursdays. It will give you a general idea of what they are doing. most people do spider-rig that time of year, the fish could be in 25 ft of water or 6 ft of water depending on the weather, this is Louisiana after all. good luck, their should be several guys on her that can help when it gets closer. pm me and might can offer suggestions.
