Great question - would be curious to hear some other chime in as well...
Is it because there are just fewer creeks that have that deep/sized water?

I would like to know myself. I've never been to the big G. Just form all the talk I would guess it's the best hard cover around. This kinda leads me to believe there's not much cover in Guntersville. I've never fished a lake the bridges where the best way to fish. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone opinion

We have a lotta cover on martin. Some of the bridges are loaded some are not. This is a good question.
Lee some bridges are good on most lakes. Seems like that's the main way to fish on Gunntersville.

I remember people at work talking about slaying them at the bridges.one guy was catching a limit from the bank every time he went.at the time i lived within a few miles of 2 really good bridges on elk river.deep, good curent.i thought im gonna get in on this.went and froze my tail off almost every day for a week and caught maybe 5 fish.

I have never fished in Guntersville personally, but I fish wheeler a good bit. There are some bridges that hold them, but the numbers we find are not near what is reported on the G. We do find white bass/stripe a lot. I grew up targeting them instead of Crappie, so catching them is something that we have always done around bridges when the current and temp are right.....I am also curious about why the G is the best with this.
Could it be because the ones that have crappie around them also have shad around them right now ?

G. I'm sure you're correct but why is it that it's a mane stay on Gunntersville and other lakes there's all kinds of way to fish?

The scenario on G'ville is that these are causeways. There is a narrow opening that is the creek channel. This is the only path in or out of these massive creeks. It also creates current. I guess you could say that it is a rest stop and food bar, on the fish interstate.
All the bridges that are loaded are on river or creek runs on martin
What can be frustrating is to mark bunches of fish on the bridge and can't buy a bite.
Yeah, I grew up fishing Guntersville. I now live much closer to Wheeler. There just aren't the many of the same kinds of bridges on Wheeler. Crappie can be caught other ways on g'ville, but the bridges are a focal point that everyone knows about. They're also good for night fishing and bank fishing because you don't have to move around. Plenty of bait, and fish pass through the channel.
What about like the causeway bridge going into Decatur??i know theres crappie caught there.i caught a few last fall.but theres not people catching limits and fighting and having foot races to get a spot. Lol.im just trying to figure this thing out.

I would think that you could spider rig the channels close to the bridge and catch them also. JMO

Guntersville bridges are so good due to the food around them the shad collect there by the thousands which bring all species of fish some nights or days you have to go through 20 shad and 20 stripe plus a few large mouths to catch those crappie I have been fishing those bridges 20 plus years and always when the bait fish arrive so do the crappie
theysaid The shad moves to the shallower water and the crappies follow ( as said )and the bridges are narrow (as said)and funnel back waters from 100-800s +/acres most have 18-25’ Chanel’s under them so they pass through their and also the shad holds their! And the bridges hold heat durning the cold sunny days of winter and warm up the water a degree or two!
Another factor that adds to the fish on the Big G around those bridges is that most of those fish are black crappie and they relate to the bridge structure and the rip rap around them. Since they are a creek channel, school after school of fish move through those causeways. I had one day that I caught 23 fish in 23 casts, missed a fish and then caught my last 7 in the next 7 casts! That one day has brought me back to that causeway for years! Lol There is now a lot of structure on those creek channels, so when they get to that causeway bridge and the bait is so thick they stick around for a bit before moving on.
Never try to fish a Westerly wind in January at night on the 31 causeway. Ask me how I know. I had a 16 lb anchor with 50 ft of rope pull loose one night.
I think that's it as well. Guntersville is a big flat shallow lake. The causeways are long and the bridges funnel them through to the big backwater areas. I will know more as I search more, but there's not brush piles everywhere, nor standing timber. There's also vegetation EVERYWHERE. I don't know how crappie relate to the vegetation but it makes it near impossible to fish docks, or at least it really cuts down on the number of fishable docks.
Fish the causeway 31 bridge in the morning and afternoon . West side. From now till end December. There’s structure their. ( hint hint ). Fish the ones on 67 when the water isn’t muddy, on a warm up day. Fish the back of bridge columns downstream side nearest the bank if in the boat. From what I’ve caught this week. There behind bridge columns 7-10 foot in the afternoon.
Oh , by experience on G . If not biting under the bridge. Try up and down the channels on the rock of the causeways. Learned that many years ago.
