Update on boat motor repair
Well, finally brought her home today.
Total cost was $1,992.50 ....
Long story but finally got her back....
First thing is to get a large fuel/water separator (like an oil filter) and mount it on inside transom .........
Guy said head gasket looked OK, said in cases like this it seems that one gets a carbon buildup
on a valve and because the exhaust is below water level, somehow valve sucks water up through
exhaust and into the oil ( ???????) ....
So, wound up with valve job, new Vapor Separator (which I messed up), I had filled the tank up
(sat all summer long with 1/2 tank = condensation = water in gas = they drained all the gas out, put in
5 gal and purged system, I took it down today and re-filled it with non-Ethanol = $46.00 more bucks....
Also said my rubber "O" ring around my gas filler cap was not good = possibly allowing water to enter gas tank,
probably why I was having those water in gas problems awhile back, they put new one on.
Fellow said I need to add a Yamaha product called "Ring Free" to every other tank of gas = It's supposed to
knock off the carbon buildup on the valves .....
And suggested to get a bigger fuel/water separator installed = which I intend to do first thing tomorrow...
Also they replaced my brand new spark plugs with NGK's (Yamaha recommended) (no charge) ...
And replaced my brand new oil filter with a Yamaha oil filter.
The guy told me in the beginning that they return all the things they take off = forgot to ask, he didn't offer.....
Just glad to get her back home.
Will be on the water this coming week, probably redfishing as the ramps are still closed at Harney (Ain't even going to Enterprise)
Please send all donations to me personally (cuts out the middle man) .......
Tx Yu .....
