i'm using wally marshall 14 foot troll techs now but i want a second set of rods that are 16ft and not quite as stiff as the troll techs. im looking at bgjp's and crappie maxx's. never used either. i've had walley marshall signiture series before but they dont come in 16ft. any opinions????
Troll techs are super stiff, so you've got cranks and power trolling covered with them. My favorite for true spider rigging is Capps and colemans or on the cheap(er) BGJPs. That said if your stuck on heavy back bones PSTs are still heavy but lighter action than the troll techs. I'm sure someone will be along to tell you about other brands shortly.

Crappie maxx are much stiffer than the BGJP.
As someone said , A trip to Grizzly and you could feel several. Very cool place.
I like the PST's and the Capps & Colemans. This is kinda like a Ginger or Mary Ann question, lol. BTW, it was Mary Ann for me all day long.

PST'S are great and do very good with detecting light bites.
But, the BGJP'S are awesome for lights and finicky fish. They don't load up as quick so the fish don't feel that resistance until it's too late and you've crossed their eyes!!
In my opinion, the best spider rigging rods would be a PST with either a BGJP or Capps and Coleman tip. Have the backbone to lift 2lb fish, and the tip sensitivity for the light bite. This set up will be my next option in rods.

well after looking an thinking about it all weekend i put in my order for eight caps and colman 16 footers to grizzly jig last night. between them, my heavy poles, and my single poles im gonna be jig pole poor. my friends already tell me my mancave looks more like a bait and tackle store than a mancave.
You won't be disappointed, great pole even tho it's not my choice I sure don't mind fishing with them when in someone else's rig.Quote:

I have fished with a set just one time, and could not adjust to the tip limberness. It seemed like you have to let the fish bury the tip in the water, THEN set the hook.Quote:
