So, I have a buddy in from Ohio and I’m wanting to get him on some crappie. I have a bunch of spots with crappie on them in about 16-20ft. But, yesterday a front came through and shut them down as we tried yesterday. We tried hugging on top of brush and everything. Would you all use minnows and drop on top of the brush like tip them with a jig? What is the best way to catch them after a front has came through

I haven’t used minnows since last winter, but I would probably try them now. I’ve been threatening to for a few weeks, but still haven’t tried them....plus, I haven’t been able to go as much because of work. I saw a video a day or so ago on YouTube, Mean Gene fishing machine, or something like that. He was using a cast net to catch some of those billions of shad and using them for bait:dono . Who knows?
So he is betting up the smaller bait in back of coves? I know where to catch some but you think it would work?

I have only tried it once, several years ago. By the time I found crappie, they had died! I am far from an expert, but if there are millions, why would they choose the one on my hook? Maybe because it is struggling and looks injured? After watching the video, I thought I might revisit it. Plus, it’s kinda fun to throw the cast net!

Good luck! Gonna be tough with the wind and bright sun. Docks? Hiding from the sun? I have only fished Watts Bar a handful of times, but Caney Creek Marina was usually good for a few.

Went out today ET. Found some deeper docks out of wind and found a brushpiles in front of one 19ft and caught some. Then tried some of my structure between 16-20ft and caught them. My buddy has some fish to take back. Had to jig for them right on top of brush Attachment 278034

I use a cast net to catch shad for bait all the time. Usually by late summer when you start to see them schooling up on the surface. Sometimes they are not big enough and they just slip through the net. You may have to try several schools getting just a few here and there until you get enough. They stay alive pretty good in my livewell. A minnow bucket is too small and they die. Haven't caught too many crappie with them but I have absolutely slayed smallmouth with them, around rocks with some current with a split shot rig.
You did good Cdog! I’m surprised there weren’t some blacks in that mix.
