High Rock Saturday
Pulled crankbaits to start the morning at High Rock Saturday morning along with a few alabama rigs for stripers. No stripers, but did pick up a few crappie on the cranks. Changed over and pulled jigs to about lunch. Probably caught 20 or more. Kept 7 for supper and released the rest. They guys with minnows were catching a lot more than us with jigs. Also the ones throwing jigs around docks were doing better than us pulling. Met some new friends that I have been talking to here. Small world. Began talking to one of the guys on here and the guy he was fishing with was the past owner of the little skeeter boat I have been fixing up to crappie fish out of.

Yes sir it was nice meeting you as well. We ended up with 73 keepers and released around 15 to 20, 3 catfish 5-10lbs, 6 baby stripers 8 to 10" and 5 white perch. the crappies were the normal high rock crappie 8 to 12" but we did have 2 around 1.5lbs it turned out to be a good day the bight was Manley on minnows 1 crank off the bottom picked up a few on double 1/16 jigs and none off single jigs.
-
Noticed we were doing more riding and you were doing more catching. lol. I told my wife everything looked near the bottom. Should have put some jigs down there, but had enough by then.
-
Matt if they don't use that trolling bar they took off, I may be interested in buying it.
-
I'll defiantly check for you. If they are using it i know the guy who made it or I can try and help you out I made the one that was on my boat ether way we can get you hooked up.

That is nice. I had one on my carolina skiff that just slid down in the two flush mount rod holders in the back so was very easy to take on and off.
-
I pulled for stripers Sat. also, no luck on them but caught half dozen crappies and a couple perch on crank bait. I stayed out on the main lake. At least you had a good trip up to The Rock Tight Line
-
Yes in indeed it was great day weather could have been better. I know you guys were saying that you were pulling for stripers with not much luck I have talked to a guy that has supposedly been catching a lot up around Cane Creek pulling two colors with bucktails.

Is it safe and thief free to launch at the wildlife area below where Art's use to be? A few problems years back
Fished HR until it dried up a few years back. Is it coming back now?
Love HR

I normally put in at Flat Swamp and have no problems. The only thing at flat swamp is some idiots come in at night and do donuts in the gravel and its almost like off roading sometimes just driving to the ramp. I have been to the wildlife and buddle creek multiple times with no problems. The bad thing about the wildlife is it just gets crowded on the weekends due to bass tournaments. I have also notice that the sheriff does stop in often to check things out so I think you will be safe where ever you go. Besides nothing will keep a true thief out no matter where you are.
-
Only thing I hate about flat swamp is that I don't think I can get my pontoon under the bridge to get to the main lake. Looks like it is too low. Have not officially tried, but looks iffy. Matt have you tried with that skiff? It is probably about as high in the water as my pontoon.
-
It just depends on how low the water is. When its low i can troll right underneath it no problem but when the lake is just a little low I have to put it in neutral and grab the bridge and push up to make my boat go a little deeper in the water so the rail on the center console want hit lol got to do what you got to do to get to the fish. But when I had my pontoon I was never able to make it under>

If you go past flat swamp, there is another landing on down off number 8 a few miles isn't there? How is it and can I get to the main lake from it. The ramp at flat swamp is also so steep that I cannot load my pontoon all the way because the trolling motor hits. I have to leave it about 5 inches back and hit my brakes hard to slid it forward once I get on the road. That is a pain.
-
Yes the wildlife on hwy 8 you can access the whole lake from there you just cant go back to Buddle creek because the low train trusses there. The ramp is not steep at all its just like most other ramps.
-
I would like to fish Flat Swamp some but like others mentioned I can't get my Carolina Skiff under the railroad bridge.
-
Flat creek swamp has it's own boating access and so does buddle creek.

Go to savehighrocklake.org and it will tell you the bridge clearances at all the places y'all are talking about. It will also tell you the lake level and the depth at end of ramps at all landings. That may help you plan your trip.
