Attachment 277302 I released this one this spring, right at 19” and 3 “ across the back, didn’t have scale in the boat. I thought about a mount but I let her go.

I've caught a few big ones, but I've never considered mounting one. But, I'm not much for taxidermy anyway. I probably learned that from my dad. True story (I know it sounds like BS, but if you knew my dad, you'd know it's true): My dad brought home a mess of crappie one day a few years ago. He weighed the three biggest ones together at home and they went well over 11lbs, closer to 12, if I remember correctly. He didn't even snap a photo. I know - sounds like BS, but believe me, he'll under estimate before he exaggerates a story.
Over 3lb I have caught some that size but didn't have the money or just didn't didn't think about it. If I ever catch a 3+ again I will probably do it

I concur 3+ is the cut point for me too.
I would probably agree with 3+ I've only weighed two that went over that and caught a few that was 16-18 inches that I didn't weigh. I was just curious what everyone's thoughts was. Most recent was close to 17

What a pig!!!!! Cowboy
First one over 18" I'm mounting. I've caught several the last couple years over 17" but sill under my mark.
Next question is do u prefer skin mounts or replica mount....

I think the replicas look better if done right. I've heard taxidermy guys say the same to.

Replicas are great. Make sure you study the paint job and know if that's what you want. It's all about the painting and how they color a fish. Different lakes and water sheds have different colors. Make sure you pick someone that paints the colors of the fish you want. I have several skin mounts of fish, but I will probably go with a replica on my next one.
I agree a replica will be the way I go, I have a great piece of drift wood up in Kentucky I’m going to get during hunting season, and start a floor piece if I can catch a few pigs this spring
Replica, if I'm not eating it then I'm tossing it back.
I'll have the memories, but prefer the chance of the genetics of a big Crappie staying where I fish.
I usually turn the bigger ones loose, my preferred eating size is 10-12 inch fish. I just know the past year or two I've landed a few that was right at 17 and I just released them, haven't came across one that was 18 or more yet..

A trophy is in the eye of the fisherman or fisher woman
Tony I'd like to think I've caught a few trophy crappie but I'm waiting on that big ole donkey of a crappie lol. I had one last year I probably could've/should've mounted but I took pics so it's not too late I just have to find them in the dang "iCloud"
