There must not be anyone on here that fishes Cumberland, lol. Well I'll give you my report. I put in at Pleasant Hill boat ramp, fished the Caney Creek area. Fished from daylight to about 4, caught 1 crappie, around 11.5 inches. We were using minnows and bobby garland, southern pro baits, all different colors. Fished depths from 5 ft of water all the way out to 50 ft. They had lockjaw, I could find fish but couldn't provoke a bite. Talked to some fisherman on the water who had heard people had been catching them. Water looked good, more than likely the problem was my fishing skills and not the fish. Beautiful day to be on the water though.
They were in the ad of the Creeks, had 3@ 16in Sunday, 18 keepers nothing under 12in.Monday 16 11-13in all were 4ft in 7fow, stripers showed up and ruined the party
Had 12 today, found them late 15-20fow tight to the bottom in thick brush, they're hiding from the stripers
Anyone else?
11 yesterday plus some short fish all on minnows in 20 -25 fow around old wood.
Caught 17 nice keepers and a ton of short fish yesterday in a creek in the Conley Bottom area. Fished slip bobber 2 ft deep with minnows. Also caught a few on a jig. Water was 3 to 6 ft. Fish bit best from 3pm to 6:30pm when I quit.
Wednesday only 12 in 3 to 37 fow. Last Wednesday we had 45 keepers all in 20 fow. About half on jigs last week and maybe 2 on jig Wednesday. They had moved looks like I should have stayed more in the 3 fow.....lol
Temp dropping fast, 53 in the head of fishing Creek yesterday
Fished a creek down near Conley Bottom Marina again yesterday. Tried to keep an accurate count of results. From 9:30am til 6pm I caught 112 crappie, 2 bluegill and 3 bass. Ended up with 20 keepers (very nice ones). Probably released at least 40 crappie just shy of the 10 inch mark. Fished with minnows and a slip bobber 2 ft deep in the back of the creek, 4 to 6 ft of water. It was a busy, but very enjoyable day.
BTW, some of the fish were caught on the new "minnow-colored" Bobby Garland jig. It works really well.
That was a real good day in my book.

It sounds like you guys are doing great on LC. I plan on fishing this weekend and I'll let you know how I do. So far my crappie trips on Cumberland have not been good. I own a place in Timber Pointe which is in Jamestown and so far that is where I have been trying to crappie fish. I've tried Pumpkin creek, Greasy creek, and Caney creek with no real success. I could always trailer to Green River and do well, but I'd rather fish LC since I have a place there.
I wonder, am I trying to shove a square peg in a round hole by crappie fishing the west end of the lake? Seems like Fishing creek and larger creeks from Conley on east are where the real crappie action is at. The big tournament always lets out of Burnside. For good reason I assume???
I'm wondering if I should just trailer to the east end and do my spider rigging there. Any thoughts from you seasoned LC veterans would be appreciated. I've been pretty successful at other Kentucky lakes for years but Cumberland is kicking my back side.
I have been fishing green for many years and catch lots and lots of fish. Then about 6 or 7 years ago I started fishing Cumberland just like I fish green and leaving thinking do I know how to catch fish. After about 3 or 4 years being hard headed I started fishing different ways at Cumberland and finally started catching fish. Don't read into where crappie usa tourneys are out of cause it is only the weigh in site you can put in at any ramp on the lake..fishing is easier on the Burnside end of the lake but I catch as many on the other end as I do on Burnside end....
From what I hear Caney and Wolf have been producing lots of crappie.
I live 2 mi from fishing creek and wonder if it's better on your end
2 weeks ago they were 25 ft deep in wolf
Yeah, I guess the grass always looks greener doesn't it? Wolf I haven't tried yet. I scouted it a bit back in December of last year and if you go past Alligator2 and hang a right there looks to be some decent crappie water, but like I said I didn't fish it yet. If the weather holds out this weekend maybe I'll give it a try and let you know how it was. It would sure be nice to be able to put the boat in the water 3 minutes from my place than trailer to Green river, or Fishing creek.
One of my biggest learning curves is fishing the deep, mostly clear water. I'm used to fishing the shallow, flat muddy water of KY lake and Green river where you're picking up fish out in the open water usually between 8-12 feet deep. LC sure seems like a departure from my norm.
Slabeye, I'm having the same feeling right now that you had years ago. I've been proficient at catching crappie for years, but now that I'm settled in on LC I feel like I don't know a thing. It's either technique or location, and from what I'm hearing there are fish to be had on the west end, so obviously it's my technique. I'm starting to wonder if I need to leave my spider rig poles in the garage and start casting to the willows, or maybe just spider rig deeper than what you would at other places. Not sure, but like you probably experienced old habits die hard and it's hard to give up on what has worked for so long at other places. It sure isn't working here though.
I think it not only the deep clear water. Growing up fishing green it is the difference between white and black crappie. To me white crappie is easier to figure out. Black crappie is different animal to me. To me seems like white crappie have more of a seasonal pattern and are pretty much in same place or area at green anyway. Black patterns changes from week to week or day to day...
