What’s so good about old news? That article I read just now about Slabmasters was about a tourney you had in August and since then 2 more tournaments in Sept. what was the results for Sept? It’s now Oct. 10th. Kudos to those that fished and placed in August.
just advertisement for them im guessing cevans. isnt there a slabmasters section at the top for this stuff? :/
You,would think that the Indiana Slabmasters would have annual write ups of each tournament on Indiana,s forum section as it would build up their winners egos a bit. It might build up their membership as well. And they could give their Sponsors a plug as well as show them they are advertising their products more and maybe pick up more sponsons too. Believe me, the more press you give each tourney, and post a couple of pics of the winners and fishies, the more benefits you develop out of it. But, what do I know? :Rofl I am not knocking the Gadabout as it is what it is, old news by the time it gets printed and sent out. Still a good read however.
dont knock till u try it.great crappie club averages 43 teams at every event and shares info on how and where to catch em.i been all over country in tournaments this one is class act.money is not their goal!!!!!!!!some dayum good tournament fishermen too.come try em out 40 dollars a tournament u have to fish 4 and u make championship..
i agree with you cevans. i remember looking into it when it started. i looked for tourney results to see what the lakes were capable of producing. i became frustrated at the lack of info on the results.
i just looked into it again, while posting this. you have to download a pdf to see results? never mind. <-- some of what he is talking about maybe? make it easy to check out and more will do so.
why don't they create a position like a publicist to post pics and results for everything to keep their page up dated?
if you go to Crappie Crazy, under tournament trails as well as clubs, Indiana Slab Masters is listed as “Indiana Slab Masters—Indiana’s Premiere Crappie Toirnament Trail”. Any time money is involved, even if run as a club, they are afraid to educate anybody and keep pretty much tight lipped as money is involved. Still, you get the publicity out, and it will build and benefit its members and sponsors. That is a proven fact. It pretty much stays at 45 teams and maybe that is the way they want it. I guess that why nothing much if anything is ever posted on the Indiana forum, but what do I know.
This much I do know, back in the late early 80’s, I was asked or become Publicity Dir. of Indiana Bass Fed. With my contacts in the fishing and boating industry, we took their tourney trail from a 1 boat giveaway to a 3 boat giveaway that was given to us by Ranger and Skeeter. Increased tournament participation from 125-150 to over 250 boats with Indiana DNR capping it at 250 ( I think it’s more regulated now but not sure) boats and limited lake usage during the summer restricting to where we could hold the tourneys and forcing us to use the Ohio River as sites in the summer months. Increased the clubs in the state also. We started the Riley Children’s Benefit tourney and the Leukemia Tourney of which Skeeter gave us a fully rigged boat to give away and started the Leukemia Telethon (I even set and ran the telethon) on channel 6 in Indy with donations Last I heard maybe now topping a maybe million? I would send out a press release to all outdoor writers in their organization getting us publicity also. We didn’t have the internet or forums then. We competed against Red Man and Blugrass Tourney trails holding our own against them. We did work the Sports Shows in having a booth. All of this worked, and couldn’t have been accomplished without getting the word out as to what we represented. It wasn’t that much of a effort on my part to do this for the 3-4 yrs I worked it. So what do I know?
this was not for you...i post this and it came out wrong, i try to fix it with out any luck. i also don't give Dam if you like it or not. you did not have to read it, unless you just like to bitch.
Well our club/guys, do seminars, have for years at bass pro, cabelas, West side bait and tackle, Johnson county fairgrounds fishing show, one around Kokomo, and other places. Several of us from the club take out, Outdoor writers. Not to mention the guys the run the club and write the articles, all have families, work full time, and keep things going with the few of them there are. It's ran very nicely, and is like a big family.
Take this into, consideration. Have you fished any tournaments in our club? Been to the weigh ins? Know all the guys? This club is more about the passion for crappie fishing. Mr. Yates and his partner have traveled from Ohio for 6 years now to EVERY tournament, hats off to them. So many of us has benefited tremendously from this club and can now compete at a higher level at CUSA, Crappie MASTERS AND A.C.T.
I would say unless you have been there and try it, I wouldn't be setting behind your keyboard bashing anyone.
Thank you Sir!
Touché
This wasn't about any club it started about what Jim wrote about crappie fishing the Ohio River, the wrong page came up I was unable to change it.the new one was very good and would help any one fish the river. I was not bashing anything, it was a thank you for Jim for a helpful way to find crappie at the river ...
All I am commenting on is you guys deserve better than old news for your hard work and wins as well. The results could be posted on the Indiana forum and press releases could be (and maybe they are) to benefit you guys. How else would I or anybody else know of your accomplishments? It is why I have been saying, what do I know. Now if you take what I consider as constructive criticism a slam instead, that is your choice. But when you leave the masses in the dark, what do you expect? And if you build the attendance up it leads to bigger payouts and more stuff donated thru more sponsors to Slabmasters as well as individual sponsorships to you individual fishermen.
and to add to what cevans said why have a special page for the ISM if you're not going to use it?
special page for the ISM... there a slabmasters section...
why all the haters, there was no reason to even open the post..
maybe you could text Slab, let him know you guys have taken over the Indiana forum and don't want anyone or anything on it with out your ok....
as for setting behind my keyboard bashing... i am the only one with a real name & pic
HATERS ??? all I did was ask why the ISM section is hardly used when all the info from the tourneys could be posted there unless you don't want the rest of us on C.C to see them.
TAKEN OVER ?? I've been on this forum, Indiana for as long as I've been on C.C because I fish Patoka as mush as I fish in Ky. and I like to know what's going on in IN.
all that is good... but not a thing with me or what i post. i hope this crap is over and wish you well Larry
I am one of those guys who for seven years have been given seminars to the public and our members and bringing in sponsors for Slabmasters. Look at our website at the sponsor lists, more then any other state crappie club in the nation. If you want to know about the results and size of the catch, look at the tournament results on website. If I spend a day pre fishing for a tournament and find them at a certain depth, certain cove, certain colors, and then that is put out there on our website, everyone will be sitting on my brush pile for weeks. If you want to know how and where I caught them, come to our weight in because we tell those present just that. I have gone to the national trails events and they do not give away a third of the sponsors products that we do at our events.
why would I want to waste my time traveling to a weigh in is exactly why you should be releasing press releases and postings on forums to enhance and build your tourneys up? Where is the gain in expecting everybody to come to a weigh in? That thought pattern is exactly why you don’t use the forum or do press releases. Nobody in their right mind would expect anybody to say where they are catching their fish either. Besides, no matter what is said, people still have to learn and catch the fish even if it was a dead giveaway. The time I have is spent fishing. LOL
Guys, I do support the Slabmasters and the tourneys you have. You would gain a heck of a lot more support if results, captions of winners fishing, etc..were posted, than to expect everyone to visit your website or expect everyone to travel and visit a weigh in. This posting is it for me on this as I have made the points I wanted to point out to you but I do support you tourney fishermen and the Slabmasters and know how hard the job is of putting together a tournament trail and the running’s of a club. Good luck fishing.
if u go to indiana slabmasters page and go to tournament results its posted within a couple days..hope to see u at some tournaments..good fishing also
I'm not taking sides, but I've served on the ISM board and fished circuits on near and far, and all have their strengths and weakness. Personally, I think ISM could use a PR position, to update CC.com, and other forms of social media. I don't Facebook, and it's hard to follow the happenings of ISM. I'm not saying I need reports (which would help the sponsors), I'd be happy with just seeing the results. Some follow football, some basketball and others fishing... nobody waits to hear the score of the super bowl two months after it's played. Lol
One flaw with publishing the results right after the tournament is over........ Cyber scouters lurking to find out what lake is HOT and then they go and catch limit after limit and pretty much destroy our little lakes for several years.
If you want to see the results right away then show up to a weigh in and you will know otherwise wait and see them.
Anytime you have 40+ boats show up to a crappie tournament it's a HUGE success... Given this is Indiana... Look at Crappie USA tournaments who advertise all over the place. They get 20 to 30 boats.
So what I'm saying is get off the computer go hook the boats up and try new lakes on your own and by golly you will find out it's not easy to find fish in a short time.... But when you do find them its very rewarding.

Typical Indiana Slab Masters mentality. You guys think the fish is for you and your tourneys,,and they are everybodys fish. Your so afraid. Remember,,you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. Same goes for guys fishing. They still have to learn how to catch fish no matter what you tell them. I said I was done with this post....guess not. Your forgetting, in the beginning,,this forum helped to build the Indiana Slab Masters, and now you turn your back on it and its because you guys are so paranoid and so afraid of people catching crappies. Your club moto seems to be also,,in teaching others how to fish?? If so,,you have lost it in your thinking. Seems to me your thinking is more of a Tournament mode of thinking. lol. And not everybody fishes big water where you guys fish. Besides,,most fish resides in only 10% of that water and they are no different that you in having to locate the productive water. And the average fisherman doesn't spend as much time on the water as you either. I could go on and on.

Look I'm not with the Indiana Slab Masters so don't throw the club under the bus... That was my PERSONAL feelings.
I have no problem with sharing fish with fishermen its those who decide to keep taking is where I have an issue.... SINCE when do I get to spend a lot of time on the water???? I work out of state 4 to 5 days a week leaving me possibly one day on the weekend to fish even when I was a guide. I use all my vacation time to fish tournaments... Not the ISM either.
This is the VERY reason I never post anything on this website any longer.... Typical responses by those who sit around waiting to be told where the fish are biting.
I'm done with this site period!
I follow the Slabmasters on Facebook. They do a good job there.
