Silver Lake next weekend
i'm pretty sure i'm going to silver lake (cowlitz) next weekend for a couple days. i'm hoping i can get into a couple hawgz pitchin' and flippin'
baitcast rod 1: 7' med heavy 17lb braid with a 3/8oz black/purple jig and craw
baitcast rod 2: 7' med 12lb mono with a 1/4oz bullet weight and baby brush hog
baitcast rod 3: ????????
spinning rod: 7' med 6lb mono with 3/16oz shaky head with finesse worm
these sound good? what do you think i should put on my other baitcaster? will shallow cranks work yet or are they still to sluggish?
oh yeah, are the crappie hitting at all? :p
-
something with a slow fall but other thatn that I would say that you have it covered!
-
-
what do you fish it around?
-
I have never been to Silver but, if I were targeting largemouths this time of year, which I think you are, that would be the rig I would be using at first. FRom what I have heard, Silver has weeds and wood. I would throw that rig anywhere there is weeds/wood with a transition from deep to shallow water. Those largies have to be getting close to moving in.
-
the thing with silver is the lack of deep water......
-
yeah, a deep to shallow transition is like 2'-5'
it might work good around some of the deeper pillars...
-
Well then, you apply the theory to what is available. If "deep" water in Silver is 5 feet, look for areas that are 5 feet with shallower areas near by. The principle of transitions works no matter what the maximum depth of a lake is. Bass will be in the deepest part of any lake in winter(generally) and move to the transition areas during pre-spawn (now).
-
Stick to the island (the side that faces the main lake) and Timber Point. You'll nail one if you can work those two places over well.
Last I heard the crappie where still biting with some guys still catching over 100 a day. Take that with a grain of salt as I have not seen any pics of those fish. I would head back deep into the canals and only fish where the bankies can't reach. Might want to try the mouth of channel up by the dam as well.
-
so basicly try to find the warmest water possible....
-
-
On that 4th bait casting rod tie on a rattle trap suspending jerkbait or suspending crankbait, and dont over look streeters canal its warm, has about a 5 foot average and lots of cover.
-
i thought about trying a shallow crank or spinnerbait....i just got some good shallow cranks a couple weeks ago i might use. should i use minnow or sunfish color?
-
just called in to the silver lake resort to reserve a hotel room and the lady said a guy the other day caught 18 crappie in the canals. maybe i have some hope :p
-
how much are those rooms anyways? I am thinking of making a trip sometime in the summer. did she say anything about the bass?
