Talquin march 2018.

I'm thinking about a 2 week fishing trip to Lake Talquin in March. For the last 15 years or so I have been going to Astor to fish the river and lakes. This year I'm looking for another place to fish for specks. I'm thinking of staying at one of these 2 places. I'm a rustic kind of guy so I don't need a fancy cabin, just a place to sleep, cook and a covered boat slip. What are you guys thoughts on Lake Talquin Lodge and Whippoorwill sportsman's lodge? Are there any other fish camps on the lake? Thanks JC

1. There are no fish at Talquin in March.

2. I prefer Lake Talquin Lodge, but the whip is equally accommodating. Lake Talquin Lodge renovated all of their rooms, cabins, etc last year.

I ain't going back till they get an outdoor fire pit where folks can have a central point to
gather and associate/chew the fat/hob-knob in the evening hours.................

Ingram's Marina is next door to the whip and they have few more boat slips. It's close to the Dam where LTL is in the middle of the lake. Either should be a great adventure.

I stayed at lake Talquin lodge last year and whippoorwill 2 years ago and enjoyed both places. Was hoping they would have the get together at Talquin again this year but looks not

Hope for some colder weather this year. Feb was great this year but got to hot early in April. Is this your first time down?

I picked up a used Fishing Hot Spot map of the lake. It shows the stump fields and depths pretty good. I like to study a new lake before I get there so I have a idea of the layout.

Down on the St. Johns river and surrounding lakes I always used 1/16 oz jigs with grubs. I was wondering if any of you use crank baits for the specks in this lake.

Better bring plenty of jigheads. There is no avoiding the underwater timber without leaving the fish. Fish will move a lot in those two weeks. Weather will vary too. Bring cold and hot gear. When it gets closer pm me and I'll get you started. Leave cranks at home. 1/16 th should be fine.

What he said! Just get with some us when U head down. Will be there God willing! Of course the prediction is the world will end tomorrow (23 Sept) so hold-off on buying lots of jig heads at the moment.:Rofl:Rofl:Rofl:Rofl:Rofl

Someone said that 1/16 oz jig heads would be fine, Do you use 1/8 oz for the deeper water, or just slow down so the 1/16 oz sink deeper? I like roadrunner jig heads, but with all the talk of snagging do you guys use the old reliable round jigs or what? Most of the grubs / curly tails I have a re 1 1/2" to 2" long. I've had luck on other lakes with pink, pink/chartreuse, yellow, blue, bubble gum. Are there any other popular colors I should start collecting? Thanks JC

Few to look at......Minnow Head Pony's works good.....You can always give me a call and hopefully can get you in the right fishing area. At Talquin.....most just look for the boats

If your staying at TLC, there will plenty of us there to help give you suggestions. Of course, we may or may not point out the ones that will lie to you!:Rofl:Rofl:Rofl:Rofl:Rofl And yes, buy plenty of Lite wire hooks!
