Looks like you got the right tools for the job.
Stumps and roots ground up.....ground smoothed back up and winter grass and fertilizer put out. Also had a oak removed from front yard and had another one trimmed up. All logs are at the saw mill.

About wore me out watching the tree people work though

Its a shame they had to come down 'cause they were so pretty. Can't let them threaten the house, though.
Yep....i had mixed feelings about it but when pine trees get that age they have about lived their life span and are going to start dying.

Smart move "G", I did the same thing a few years back. I had 2 pines that were planted by the previous owners many many years ago. One of them was 3 foot across 2 foot above the ground and the other was 28 inches. Both were tall enough to reach the house if they fell. The trees were way to big for the small property I have. I have since turned that area into a very productive vegetable garden.
My son, son in law and I took my trees down. My son in law had all the equipment need including a 60' lift. The only tricky part was topping the tree above the reach of the lift. We use a 12 pole saw and still had a top section of about 20 foot. After that was done we just cut it into 3 foot sections and worked our way to the bottom. I wish I would have had someone to cut the logs into lumber.

Good decision "G"......having been thru a few hurricanes, I can tell you that the pine trees are the first to snap and come down....I actually spent $1500 to take down 3 pine trees on my next door neighbors lot that was threatening our house(with his permission)....as I understand, if his tree falls on my house, his insurance does not cover it...my insurance would....so, ya did good....
Having lumber cut is better than feeding Termites.
Very good my friend. I have always been concerned about large pine trees in a hurricane prone area such as we live in. No pines here, just hardwoods. Daughter and son-in-law have a few very large ones in their yard. They'll snap in a heartbeat.
Now my questions is, what are you going to do with the cut lumber? And, how do you plan to dry it? If necessary, I'll latch onto one of my trailers and head that way.
Randy I sold the logs to guy thats got a one man saw mill to get some of my money back that I payed to have the trees took out. He came and got them and my tree crew loaded them for him.

Wow those were big trees! Glad you got them down before having a problem. And I love your yard. :)
Thanks Ann....it keeps me busy.....three acres of lawn to mow each week.....and I still got plenty of trees to look at......surrounded by them. Attachment 274229Attachment 274230

You have a beautiful place!
I did the same thing back in the spring with about a half dozen big pines and a couple of gums. They didn't shade the house and one was leaning over my bedroom, plus they made a mess on the roof.
Good job. And no blood spilled. That sounds like a good project to me. :biggrin
Beautiful place......Looks like you are tornado proof also.....
Randy, my son in Calhoun has some huge pines that need to come down. I'm probably going to do that in November when I go down for Thanksgiving and the plan is to find someone in the area with a portable saw mill. I'll keep you in mind when the time comes and maybe we can hook you up with some lumber.
G, nice piece of property. You're over around Trace, aren't you?
My driveway is 4 miles from the gate at Trace State Park. Pontotoc county MS

That is correct Bruce. In the state of Louisiana the neighbors insurance stops at the property line and yours picks up there. My FIL had 1 neighbors tree that fell on his house and he also had a tree that fell from his yard onto another neighbors house. FIL's Insurance had to cover the neighbors tree that fell on his house and the other neighbor's insurance had to cover FIL's tree that fell on his house.
Beautiful property G! Thanks for sharing with us.
Just think how big a brush pile they'd have made. Then again, where would you find a weight big enough to sink them?
Beautiful place G
