Talked it up

Just got back home and tried to sneak out for a few hours. Pulled cranks on the Rez and continued working with the QuickDraw feature on the Garmin unit. Found some fish on a ledge in 16' and picked up three back to back. Pulled in the third and from being distracted with the sonar and excited from thinking I had found the pattern I let go of the crank with the rod still loaded. Attachment 273248

After finally digging it out I decided to call it an evening early. Pointed the bow towards the ramp and immediately spun the hub on my prop. So I had a long ride home to enjoy the sunset(oh, nav lights are out, too, I found out) and repent for the words I may or may not have said. The temp felt great, the feesh were all around 13.5"-14"

Glad you caught a few on the rez...How deep is the thermocline now? Sorry about the finger...

Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Those fish were pretty expensive for sure. Hope you get everything fixed(including sore finger) and back out on the water soon. I will be looking forward to seeing your reports and pictures soon.

The only thermocline I saw was in the river channel about 18' down

Been working on my pontoon boat. Just installed an aluminum transom and Jack plate and trying to get it set up so I might go out today for a while for a test run and try pulling some cranks between the weather station and roses bluff. How's the finger this morning?

Just rubbed a little dirt in it and it healed right up. I started on the edge of goose lake and followed a similar path. Marked a ton of bait over around that area in the deeper water but had no takers. I wish I could have gone back and trolled about fifteen feet shallower than my first pass.

OUCH THAT LOOKED PAINFUL . I DIDN'T GET BUT NINE . CAUGHT MOST OF THEM AFTER 12 AND LEFT ABOUT 1:30 . HAVE A QUESTION . THERMACLINE WILL THE TEMP OF THE WATER AFFECT IT ? IF SO THE WATER WASN'T BUT 84 SATURDAY . THE FISH HAVE NOT HAD TO GO AS DEEP TO GET AWAY FROM THE HEAT . ANYTHING I BELIEVED TO BE LAW HAS BEEN THROWN TO THE WIND AND RAIN THIS YEAR . I AM STILL CATCHING THEM 8 - 10 FT DEEP ON THE LEDGES NOT ANY DEEPER MAYBE 12 AT THE MOST . WELCOME BACK MATT

My experience has been that with the expected rain coming in the lake and them pulling water, the themocline will move. Especially further up the lake.

I have not seen much of a thermocline in the water . And I figure I spend more time.e out there than most . Thanks I will keep watching .

I believe the temp determines the dissolved oxygen which affects the thermocline if one even develops. The only defined thermocline that I have seen on the Rez has been only in the main river channel staying mostly deeper than 20'. Only one trip that I saw a clearly defined one. I haven't caught a fish deeper than about 8' since January. Even pulling cranks in 30' of water they were less than six feet deep.

We went out yesterday early afternoon and pulled some cranks for a couple of hours. No takers... Was using picos and arkie 350s 25 to 30 ft. Out. 1.6 to 2.07 mph out from roses bluff.

Man I hate that happened to your finger. When I take people fishing I stay on them about leaving that pole loaded and trying to take the hook out of a fish and not hitting the release and give the line some slack. It's not if, but when, a fish will flop and that crank or jig will come flying out looking for something to hook into, usually your hand. When it has happened I usually put a pair of needle nose pliers in line with the barb of the hook and one quick pull straight out against the barb and it comes out easily and surprisingly, nearly painlessly. But getting a hook past the barb into your hand usually happens sooner or later if you fish enough.
