I use Louisiana fish fry New Orleans style (yellow label) they also have a crispy version (blue label). Academy on County Line usually has both as well as others. Enjoy the trip!

What part of the coast are you going?
Don't carry anything with you, buy when you get there.
During our week at Gulf Shores, the closest walmart had Louisiana fish fry, Zataran fish fry and Zataran crab boil in a jar cheaper than what it cost here.

yellow corn meal and salt and pepper is hard to beat,if your going add cajun seasoning omit the salt.
That Andy's red is pretty good never tried it on shrimp, if I was down there near all that fresh seafood I would be boiling that shrimp and grilling that fish, may be even throw a few shrimps on the barbie too! Eat enough deep fried stuff at home! Either way y'all have a safe trip down and be sure to take some pictures to share.
We've got a house on the water at Pass Christian. Right next to the boat ramp on Henderson Point. We sho gonna take the big boil pot and burner. Already got a huge bottle of powder crab boil!!!! Hearing the shrimp are running and you can actually catch them In a few places with a cast net. Got a couple crab pots to for the pier to. If all else fails, I got a credit card for the seafood buffet. lol
Getting it started for you DD, grilled swordfish and squash. BTW a shrimp / crawfish boil tops my list of favorites, got to have those andouille sausages as well as corn and potatoes!

We're not going for 2 weeks. Just getting all our ducks in a row. Soooooooo ready to get down there.
Lived in south LA for 12 years some how got takin in by a shrimping family. August is absolutely the best month for scrimp and you are right they can be caught in a cast net. After the sun goes down they will move to skinny water. Think you said you have a house with a dock. Throw the net on a out going tide - my glasses are in the truck so I really don't know what I just typed may have been big feet sighting
