Thanks. Years ago I fished Sardis and know it has some but can't remember what part of the lake it was on.
Lots of cypress lots of buck brush at higher water levels some dead timber but mostly submerged

Of the big four Butla was the last built. All timber was cut before flooding. In younger years when water was low you could see stumps. Silt has covered the stumps over the years.
Silt in is a problem on the big 4, none will hold the volume of water as they use too.
Looks like they were holding some water in 1942Attachment 271950

Need to stop in there the next visit down, I was in the original built one back some 30 years ago, was a 2nd grade field trip I do believe. It was awesome, loved the old video they showed of the dam being built! The other kids mostly all went to sleep when the lights went out, not me.
That Rule Curve on Butla hadn't changed in 70+ years!

You're the man, Snub!!!
Now you walk through the spillway and hear the water rushing around ya, pretty cool. Also there is a pic I took of one of the kids I carried on a hunt there a few years back of him and the ranger that set it all up. He was an inspiration, dead now but sure taught me about life the 6 or so years I knew him. Was with him the day before he died, he told me goodbye with a smile on his face and thanked me for taking him on several hunting in those 6 years.

Contrary to some's belief it has NOT changed on any of them, you can go back and look at every one of em

Sounds like a very brave young man! Hate to hear of his passing, I will make it a point to go in there next time down. Thanks for sharing the story, and the walk thru the spillway sounds neat. I was down there the day of crankfest and they had one side of the spillway blocked off and were pumping water out from somewhere back into the outlet channel.
He was very brave, more of a man at 22 than most will ever be.
