Go to Sam's or Costco. You'll get the best deal on the hi end ones. Otherwise, Harbor Frieght! LOL

No experience with those.....probably could use one tho...
What did you say? Type louder. rotfl
Why do you guys whisper so much, just like Linda. In fact even the TV is starting to do it. I think it's a conspiracy by the hearing aid people. Maybe it's the Russians.

If you spent any time in the military go to the nearest office of the DAV and have them help you go through the VA. You don't have to be a member of the DAV. The Resound brand HAs I got cost $7500.00 at the local dealer.
FOLLOWING!!!
I joined Costco three years ago for this very reason. I've had very good luck with mine and it was $1200 from them (Only need one). Now, the issue I have had is that the techs up in Illinois were great and the techs at the Costco in Memphis are terrible.
I only have one for my right ear. Shotguns got the left one. The one I have is Phonak. A guy camped next to me
said he had Phonak and went to Resound. He said Resound was head and shoulders better than Phonak. Mine was
$1400.00 and the Resound was around $2000.00. I bet the mark up on them is about like mattresses. I really miss
mine when I forget to wear it.
Thanks for all the info......yep i been reading about the Resound.
If I did get any hearing aids, I would differently want be able to want turn down the volume, or off. Don't know if they make such things.
In that manner, I can go about town going about my business not caring what folks have to say. I have my own observations, and enjoy my thoughts. I'll communicate in my own way. What I'd what miss is the dogs bark and the birds signing. What I find interesting is those many folks never heard a spoken work, many out there. Some very intelligent, there a couple I know. No telling what's on their mind.
Mine are NuEar. 4 channel, regular, crowds, wind noise and one other. They have volume control activated by cell phone up and down. 6800.00 a pair. They don't go fishing much.
I am on my second set. First set was the fit in your ear type and I didn't like them. When talking it sounded like I had my fingers in my ears. Felt like I was yelling but everyone said I was soft talking.
Last time I tried Miracle Ear and am much happier. I got the ones that fit behind your ear and the little wire goes inside. Works much better although they still don't work as well as I'd like. I can hear birds and insects that I can't without them and things are louder but I still can't make out conversation sometimes (particularly in a noisy environment).
Best thing about Miracle Ear is the service. I have 2 years no questions asked replacement coverage and free batteries. I opted for the more expensive ones that come with a charger and they were $3000 each. Ouch!
I've had them for over 15 years. I tried the behind the ear type but I can't keep them on. I was forever knocking them loose, taking sunglasses on and off, pulling a sweater over my head, etc. I had to stick with the in the ear type, however, I believe the behind the ear give better results.
They are not a cure all like glasses. You don't put them on an have 20/20 hearing. You will still struggle in loud noisy situation like restaurants, etc. You can lessen that by choosing to sit with back to wall instead of middle of floor. Overall I am much more comfortable wearing them than not.
When I first got mine I realized I had not been hearing sounds like crickets chirping, or rain falling in the woods.
Mine are Phonaks from my local Doctor.
Thanks for the replys.....gives me something to think about and also ask questions about. Should get this all worked out Thursday next week.
Went and got checked out....got a pair of ReSound behind the ear Premium models on order....should be here next week.

You can do those things with your phone Randy....the have automatic back ground suppressor built in them....the audioligist programs that stuff in them by computer.....then puts a app on your phone for other controls and you can also over ride the automatic features with your phone......they have come a long way from just straight amplification. These are great. They ought to be cost 5 grand.
7 days now....first 4 days I liked them....now I dont. Dont know if something is wrong with them or if they are set wrong or not. Taking them back to get them checked out.....if they not any better after that i can get my money back all but 200 bucks. I will just do without because so far its not worth $5000.

"CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW"
I'm in the process of getting some through the VA so this thread is very interesting. I've got tinnitus as well as hearing loss attributable to my time in the USAF. I know it's gotten pretty bad since I had to turn on the closed captioning on the TV since the wife said I was turning up the volume too loud.....lol.
$5000, that's a lot of crankbaits. I'll stay deaf.

Hope they get you satisfied. That is a lot of money.

Since Costco is so far away from me now, I went yesterday to a local audiologist and was tested. I need them now in both ears, which I knew before I went... Two are on order. I did find that my insurance covers all but the office visit, so I'm happy as can be!
I was not at all happy with them.....returned them and got my money back all except 200 dollars for the exam.

What was your major compliant with them?
Well.....the left one went crazy and kept running the volume up and down from low to wide open. The right one just stopped working. I knew they would either fix them or replace them.....but the biggest problem was they would not stay in my ears....kept working out and every 10 to fifthteen minutes i had to poke them back in and that was making my ears sore. They told me that I had unusual ear canals and that i needed a custom mold thing on the end made to fit my ears .....they said they would make them up at no charge. Kinda made me mad that they did not do that to start with because when the tested and examined me they told me my ear canals were different. I was fed up and told them to give me my money back. I might try again at a later date and go to a different place. But the first few days when they were supposedly working right I really did not think they made much difference....i could hear a little better but I would miss a word here and there. I thought I was hearing better and then I realized people still had to repeat stuff.

I couldn't keep the ear inserts in either. The behind the ear type has never come out in three years unless I did it taking
a shirt off or something that pulled unit off.
They were the behind the ear type
They didn't fit you right. I'd change supplier and try it again. I'll forget to put mine in some days. When I put it in, I can hear
my steps on carpet. The main place I need aid is watching tv or talking to a kid. Without it I can't understand a thing small
kids are saying. On the tv side, watching news, I can understand one person as plain as day but who ever he is talking to, I
may not understand anything they say. Especially if they have a growl type voice.
I had the same problem with behind the ear ones. I've had the in ear ones for 20 years, never know they are there until one quits. But they are not a cute all. You will still have to ask people to repeat things and struggle in high noise areas like restaurants, just not as much..Quote:
