Been wondering about them myself

I bet ScottV and mrdux have
I didn't know they had crappie.
Yes, there is one more on the line of a bandit far as size and depth. Have caught quite a few fish on them. I just don't remember the number they use.
Just like when you told me Akiebutla was an easy lake, fool! Rofl!
That 187's look awfully tempting along with some of the other numbers.

I have bought and painted several from that line and have caught plenty of fish too!
I've used the factory painted c55s and 549s. I actually fished them before I started ordering the blanks. I hate the hooks on them but they run true out of the box and catch fish. Change out the hooks and you should be fine. I know BRM uses them.
I have used the 55's and the worked very well. Looks like there are several other models offered with similar length bills and just a different body shape. Was curious if anyone had used those too. The 549s, 187s, and so forth. I mean, for the price you can't hardly justify not trying a few.

What hooks do you prefer?

They work fine, but the hooks with safety covers are a pain, also the hook are brittle and break. I use the red Eagle claw hooks.
I've tried Matsuo, Eagle Claw, and the $6/hundred red Chinese hooks. I ruin the expensive hooks equally to the cheap hooks on catfish. I keep a pint jar of red hooks with split rings on them and split-ring pliers to replace the hooks on the boat. I will occasionally break a hook on a hang-up but not very often. I do know the $6/hundred Chinese hooks are blood-letting sharp!!! You can find them on eBay. I'm not at the computer where I have that info.
Guys, keep in mind that I probably have 20 different brands of cranks in my boat at any time. The all have their time and place. We caught several of the fish we caught in Rickie's story on the main forum on boards and c55s along with a bunch of custom painted Bombers, Arkies, Bandits, you name it. If wLure had solid white c55s and 549s, I'd be buying those now also. For the price they are hard to beat. I just prefer my own colors and patterns that they don't carry.
I'm still not sold, but if you buy some then yes that old black nickel steel produced in Chiner is too hard and brittle, don't hold up well to needle nose pliers and such! I replace mine with the Eagle Claw red trebbles hooks after I break them. Chinese crank baits?? Ain't they all now a days??
HC549 is the one I have some of. I just put new #4 red hooks on when I take out of the package. Got a couple of dozen of those and c55 never a bad runner out the box. And they catch fish.
Touche', good sir!

Thanks, fella. Already have a few in the basket. Did you notice them running similar in depth to the c55 or any other bait?

They look better than some of the China Sport cranks I've seen on ebay.
They must of had a sale this weekend. I click on a group and the price pops up $0.99, withing a few seconds the price jumps higher.
Thank you, sir. You are certainly a wealth of knowledge on these matters. So the 549 runs more similar to a Arkie 220 or smaller bandit where as the 55 is more of a 300/350 in terms of depth.

Hahaha, it kind of feels like buying at auction. Prices always shifting and color selections are different everyday sometimes! Lol

Looked around website yesterday, was not much to choose on the C 55's.
I have a special mate box full of 628's. Like mrdux said... time and place. They won't outfish the smaller baits every day, but they will on some days, some conditions.
Not much to choose from on those either right now.

The factory painted ones work as good as any for 1.25, depending on how many you buy. The color selection is slim right now. I guess they've sold out of most colors. They really work well.
BRM
I've have some of the C429's for shallow running. They run good. I ordered mine through Ali Express from Wlure. Its kinda like the Asian Ebay. Here is a link to the ones I ordered.

If the right color and style can be had they would be as good as Bandit and Pico.
The 549 baits they sell are good baits. I've tried a couple more which won't run correctly. The 549 is simular to a Flicker Shad.

I have had best luck with the 549's and the c103's. Still I'm not as confident With them as I am a bandit just because I know my exact depths behind my boat with 300 bandits.
When I get time to pull them at Enid where I can hit bottom and get my exact depths on them I'm sure I'll have more confidence in them, but the reservoir ain't the lake to learn all that..
Ha, ain't that the truth! This is my first year pulling cranks and on the Rez at that. People say to just find a nice sloping flat without any timber to hone in the depths. Buddy, that don't hardly exist on Barnett! You're either on the money in in the wood! :rofl

Seems like you hardly need a crank that'll run deeper that 12' on the Rez so far in my experience. Not that it has stopped me from trying to buy every one that I see..... I troll with my main engine and have had better luck with the more shallow running lures as I can get them further out behind the motor before they hit my target depth. Don't reckon I have caught one deeper than about 8 or 9 foot in my times out there. Regardless of the water depth.
