Cranking for Crappie? Bass, Catfish, White Bass

Skipped the bacon and eggs this morning and loaded up on crankbaits instead. Just a 2.5 hr trip before the July sun begins bearing down and sends me on my way. Actually I have done this the past two mornings with the intent of catching crappie but in the process have actually caught catfish, bass, bluegill, yellow bass, and white bass.
Points and channels are where I have been finding these fish suspended on Tellico Lake.
Arkie 350's and Bandit 200's have been the most productive pulled at 1.5 mph. Arkies caught the best yesterday morning but the Bandits caught the most this morning. Go figure. Did loose one rapala shad rap to a good sized catfish. Thing broke me off as I was trying to get my hands on him beside the boat. Guess that's why they make nets huh?
Had 27 fish yesterday but today I only had 17 before my shirt was wet with sweat and decided to call it quits.

Great video and great catch. Those are some nice whites.

I see it works for you but I have had so many fish lost by clients who try to use the drop-and-reel technique and let the line go slack by dropping it so far with me telling them to get the rod up high and just reel it in with the fish on top. Of course it's always my fault when they come off.

Around here, this would probably be carp.

Congrats on some summer sweat cranking. Gota love it to do it in July/august.

Pliers? Absolutely!!
Candi lets just say a friend and I were fishing Dale Hollow Lake one day. A large drum came into the boat caught on a crankbait. As he was trying to remove the lure the fish started flopping and came loose from his grip. The fish embedded a treble hook so deep into his thumb you could feel the tip out on the other side. Ouch!
If that wasn't bad enough, the fish would not stop flopping around long enough for me to get the lure out of the fish for him. I ended up cutting the crankbait free just to get him loose from his punisher. I've never forgotten this.
Anyhow I change my crankbait hooks out with Gamakatsu hooks and those hooks are sharp sharp sharp. Wouldn't take much to get hooked up in the wrong kind of way if you know what I mean. That's why I like to use the pliers. :ThumbsUp

Your scenario plus seeing pics of a guide buddy who is also a member here having 2 of 3 hooks on a blade bait buried to the shank in his ankle with a large blue catfish flopping around made me an instant believer of carrying side cutter pliers and keeping them within reach at all times. They are about the only way to quickly cut the shank of a large treble hook. I recently had a 4 pound white catfish bury a hook on a Bomber 6A crank to the shank in the knuckle of my left index finger. I grabbed the side cutters, snipped the hook at the shank, put a bandaid over it and fished the rest of the trip with it embedded. I got it out after cleaning the clients' catch.

Pantaatic, well rats! I guess I can no longer use the excuse Tellico doesn't have any good fish in the summer. :) Great job. I've been hitting some docks on Tellico occasionally on the weekends without much success. Given your success and hints as week as Drumking's success and explaination on the delta structure, I think I'll try something different this weekend. Thanks for the great video. I also appreciate screenshot of the depth finder as I see the fish are indeed thick in some spots.
