Well I did it. I fell in with the Ipilot running.

I was pulling cranks today on Grenada and hooked into a giant Buffalo. It took a good 5-10 minutes to get him to the boat with 90 feet of line out using a 10ft Pinnacle Limit rod (I can't speak highly enough on that thing). As he got to the boat I went to net him and he had one last run in him and knocked the net out of my hand. As I went for the net I fell over the side of the boat but luckily I didn't go far and was able to grab the side of the boat before it got away from me. I don't usually wear my remote around my neck as it just gets in the way but needless to say I'll always have it on me now. And to top it all off I still landed the fish and brought home a few good crappie too!

I don't wear my remote around my neck either. Would be too easy to lose if you fell in anyway and is uncomfortable. I have a short lanyard with a carabiner clip. I clip it to my belt so it hangs off my hip. Hot as it's been, probably felt pretty good taking a dip.

I do the same as Feelay, sounds like a pretty eventful day and a good day!!!!

Had not thought about it. Could be easier to lose around the neck. I have it in my hand a lot so I don't want it hanging from my waist. Going to experiment with the clip on my life chest.

Wow! Glad you made it back in the boat! I have a belt loop lanyard that I've been considering on wearing. Good to hear you made it out safely, and caught a few fish to boot! What you gonna do with that thing? You got an acre of maters to fertilize? :biggrin

I always wear my remote on the belt clip. I also wear an inflatable belt if I'm fishing alone.

Stopped by a church having an outdoor picnic on the way home and asked if anyone wanted a buffalo. One ole boy came running up with an ear to ear grin. I figured if that fish caused me that much trouble someone was gonna get to eat it.

Same thing here I wear it clipped to my belt.

I made a short extension on the left arm rest of my seat. Velcro on the remote and velcro on the extension. I fish right side.
when I am seated, it is right at my fingertips. My partner fishes left chair and can reach it if need be. The remote would drive
me crazy if I had to wear it. Nice fish and cute kid.

My remote is always around my neck Don't like it anywhere else. I'll take my chances falling in cause it fits snug enough.

Glad all went well. I wear mine around neck and either clip it to my overall straps or to a loop on my guide shirt.

Heck I cant hardly get the lanyard around my big head so I know it aint gonna fall off!

If the remote is not attatched to your body when you fall....you will not be able to use it...it will also be hard for an older guy like me to get back in the boat soaking wet..I will be wearing an inflatable full time..Best deal is dont fall out...something I didn't used to think about

Glad you got ahold of the boat before it got away from you. It might have been interesting if all those crank baits came dragging across you:yikes.

That's my biggest worry. Can I get back in the boat. Yea I know bout the putting your foot on the motor and tilting. Last time I was out in the water was about 20 years in a boat with a ladder, barely made it.

Short lanyard hooked to my belt and unit layin in my lap. Easier to get to than one hangin round ya neck.

I fell in at Sardis one time. I was wearing my inflatable vest that did it's job Luckily I had someone with me. I tried using the motor to get back in the boat with, but I couldn't get my foot high enough. My partner slow idled the boat to the bank while I held on. As soon as I got home I ordered a folding four step telescoping ladder.

I bought a rope ladder with weighted plastic steps at Academy...I have it fastened to a cleat on the back deck...it is folded up and strapped down with a velcro strap....can release and deploy it from the water. Good cheap fix and its not in the way. Also have a short rope with a loop for a hand hold fastened to the cleat.

I wonder how much weight that cleat can hold..mine dont have very large diameter screws.. That might be a good solution...maybe install a ladder with heavier bolts

It will hold a lot....mine is put on with bolts washers and lock nuts

A little FYI, Minnkota remotes are waterproof and they float.
And I always have mine around my neck on a lanyard.
As a guide for hybrids and stripers, I am all over the boat assisting in netting, photographing, re-baiting, etc.

I'm glad you ended up okay. I started using the MinnKota short carabiner clip this year and clip it to my right front belt loop. It's right where I need it when I reach down, don't run the chance of it falling off since it has positive attachment to my pants and it eliminates the lanyard tan line that I got every year.

With all the talk in the off topic forum about treestand safety harness system, maybe one should have a troller boat safety harness system.....

Have to tie a man on there and drag flats, be the only way. Course the shape and bulk of the said man may make the difference in the performance.
