bought my regulator, hose, and ceramic diffusor from keepalive.net and someone gave me the cylinder. Keeps you from loosing bait and keeps them healthy. I can swap it over to the live well if im trying to keep fish alive.
I use the medical version of the above mentioned system. The key is the ceramic diffuser instead of air stones. The ceramic diffuser puts back pressure on the bottle and doesn't use near as much oxygen because the oxygen is being Forced through the ceramic diffuser for smaller bubbles which infuse the oxygen into the water better. An air stone pretty much lets the oxygen free flow through the stone and uses 3-4x the oxygen because the bubbles are much bigger and the water can't catch as much of the bigger oxygen bubbles before they dissipate out of the water.
In cold water, I don't use the oxygen as much. Cold water holds oxygen longer. Warm to hot water let's the oxygen escape faster because the water molecules are moving much faster and releases the oxygen.
Water temps have little to do with keeping fish or bait alive. The critical part is to keep plenty of oxygen in the water. Cooling down the water helps hold the oxygen more than it keeps the fish alive. We've all caught shallow fish in the summer when the surface temps were in the low to mid 90's. Those fish were plenty healthy when they were caught because the lake water hold lots of oxygen and doesn't get depleted.

I've got all three size bottles used for torch o2... depending on what I'm doing and for how long as to which I use. It's critical that you get a regulator that you can turn down to 1/32. The 1-2-3-4 regulators will work but you burn your oxygen way faster than necessary. Let me know if you need a regulator. I know a guy...
Ceramic is the only way to go on the diffuser. Don't even worry with an air stone. You won't be happy.

Ducker found regulators online for 20 bucks. That's a deal. His go down to 32nds. I use a pediatric regulator on my medical bottles that measures in 64ths.
He bought his diffuser from me.

Been wanting an oxygen system. Checked out the keepalive system mentioned in an earlier post. Bottle, regulater, diffuser, and hose for around $260 bucks plus shipping. Is that a high price?
If aquatic ecosystems has them in stock, the stone should cost $34 plus shipping. For the small bottles you can get them for around $100 at most nextair or airgas dealers. Regulator $20-$30. Hose is just 1/4 id. I use fuel line.... it's cheap.

Thanks. Still looking and found a keepalive system at Broadway tackle, includes everything plus carrying case, plus free shipping-$190. That's getting in range there. Will check aquatic eco.
Thanks. Will check aquatic.
My bad. Clicked to buy at Broadway and it makes you buy pieces individually and it comes out much higher. Very misleading.
Think I'll just go by the regular oxygen places and see what I can come up with.
I would go buy one from nexair. That's where I go when I need a refill. They just swap bottles with you for $15. I pd $150 for my set up but the bottle was given to me...so I guess I saved around $100. You will enjoy it
Yes I swap bottles at nexair too. I'll see if I can link the stone over here.

Sweetwater Air Diffusers, Flat Ceramic
They are out of stock on the 4" stones. The 8" will work if it'll fit, it just costs a little more money.

you can get a bottle at most NAPA stores. I get mine swapped here in Grenada for $12.00 not sure how much it is to buy a bottle without trading.
I bought the transfill hose and fill mine myself from a friend's big bottle

I have the 4 and 6" diffusers that have the square ends and round middle that shoots the oxygen out 360 degrees.

ive never used oxygen im pretty much a weekend fisherman. i keep minnows through the winter but not when its as hot as it is now. Does o2 make that much difference and i dont mean just a day on the lake but week to week. i have found it near to impossible to keep em healthy for 2-3 weeks at a time.
I don't use oxygen for week to week storage, I use aquarium pumps for that. (X4). I use oxygen for high density hauling. I use a 20 quart cooler for a minnow cooler. I've kept as many as 6-7 pounds in there at a time with oxygen. They only die when the ammonia content gets too high. Otherwise they live like that forever.
I've been using the same set up for 6 years now and everything still works great. Every once in a while you need to hit that ceramic stone with some 60 grit sandpaper when it's dry to keep it working like it should. Minnow water will clog the pores if you don't.

Awesome thread guys!!! Thanks for all the info.
Thanks pstone good info. I usually don't buy that many at a time cause I don't get much time to fish. My tank is a 65 gal poly watering tank for livestock and I use a 100 gallon aquarium pump. Works fine in the wintertime never tried it much in the summer

It'll work in summer but you'll lose more. I have 4 of those pumps running in my tank. It's a little bigger than yours though. You can not have too much air. You will also need to change the water more frequently.
