sink a bale of alfalfa hay down there amongst it and give it a week and go back.
Yes but I just wonder how much weight does it take to sink a bale of hay? and how long will it last?
Plankton and zooplankton form on it and that brings the bait fish in.....works great.
Alfalfa bales are heavy when dry, especially when fresh. I know, deal with them often. The feed store where I get mine used to have it in a "three wire bale" as they called it. Folks couldn't deal with it, so they went to a "two wire bale" which is still heavy. Off loaded some today. I can't imagine anyone loading and putting a bale in the boat, let alone dropping it overboard.
I've done it at Toledo Bend. And yes they are heavy! And YES it does work, especially if you can give it a week before coming back to it. It has been years since I did mine but I think I used cinder blocks and Christmas trees in 5 gallon buckets with quickcrete in them to sink it.
Yep...one square bale is all it takes and it will last a long time...I freshen my spots up with a new bale every year.
He said, takes 2 concrete blocks on 2 wire 80 - 90# bales

Does it have to be alfalfa? Could you use another type of hay?
Where would one find some alfalfa hay between Lafayette and Toledo Bend? Thanks.
Well, that is easy. Is it the same size as a regular bale of hay? How much do they cost?
Also, how often do you drop them?
Yes, all bales there are two wire now. They have a "Timothy mix" as well which is a mix of alfalfa and regular hay which might work. Don't know the cost of that. I buy the straight alfalfa. Prices fluctuate a great deal, plus I'm tax exempt as a land owner. Last weekend spent $15.30 a bale.
Needs to be alfalfa
Yep takes two blocks....sometimes three

Perfect. Thank you. We have a few piles that were great earlier this year but have died off. I wonder if this could revive them.
It should......give it a week after you sink them

Will do. Worth a shot.
i was forced to go to Pendleton bridge this past weekend and caught a few, but got caught in some rough stuff. Thankfully only minor damage.
When dropping this hay do you leave it in a block or do you break it up? Thanks.
Leave it in the bale
