Heading to taylorsville with my uncle next weekend. It will be our first time fishing taylorsville. Any tips on what is working for crappie right now or where to start other than the usual search for a brush pile and camp out. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks!

But, just in case ... my normal approach is to start early in the day & cast to downed trees that are on shady banks. Then as the day wears on & there aren't any shaded banks, I'll go to using trolling techniques. I used to use trolling as a way to catch the Hybrids & White Bass, which can be done even while boat traffic is constant. But, nowadays I intend to put my long rods & cranks to the test. But, if the boat traffic is too bad, or there's a lot of floating debris on the water ... I'll probably go into some creeks or pockets & fish the standing timber, with jigs if the fish are deep (>5ft) or holding close to the tree, and marabou Roadrunners if they're shallow (<5ft).
I'm certain that boat traffic will be heavy, as it normally is on weekends, but I haven't been able to make it over there during the week ... because of weather and other factors.
The lake came up a little over a foot from the recent rains, so I am expecting some trash/debris to be floating around ... but, hopefully the wind & boat traffic waves will have pushed most of it to the shoreline.
Awesom. Any reccomendations on where to launch or, is the main marina my best bet. I've never been before so I have no clue where I'm going or anything about the lake.
if you don't know your way around, yes the main marina is your best bet, otherwise I'd suggest go up to Chowning ramp, not a lot of high speed boats up there because of a lot of tree tops and shallow water
Other than Settlers Trace Marina ramp, I'd go to Possum Ridge boat ramp (State Park entrance road). The no wake buoys around the marina are so far apart that most "boat riders/wave makers" don't use that part of the lake. They tend to run the main lake from the mouth of Little Beech to the horseshoe bend.Quote:

I broke my own rule (never go to Taylorsville on a weekend), but I hadn't been in a long stretch & just had to go !! ;)
Wave makers were out in force, everywhere I went, which made for some tough boat control. We did manage five 10" keepers ... all caught casting jigs to laydowns. Blue/char Crappie Thunder tube for me & pink/char Slabanator Deuces Wild for my partner ... both on 1/16oz weedless jigheads.
Fish were caught 1-2ft off the bottom in 10-15fow. 5 keepers, 6 dinks, 1 LMB (14") and one sorry lookin / beat up catfish came into the boat ... only the 5 keepers got a ride home.
Pushed jigs for awhile, no hits. Didn't really see that many Crappie anglers on the lake, today ... but Settlers Trace Marina parking lot was nearly full at 830AM.
You might have better luck if they pull the lake back to pool and it stays there for a few days. They were pulling over 900cfs ... and normally it's less than 100cfs.

Well, Jman ... I hope someone gives you a good report that will help you figure them fish out. I'll be night fishing at Lake Cumberland on that date, and likely won't be back to Taylorsville before then.
Has your Uncle ever fished there ?? What technique(s) do you plan to use. If you plan on casting jigs to the laydowns or stickups or any brushpiles you may find ... I suggest you use 1/16oz weedless jig heads. And if you don't have a map or your electronics doesn't have GPS/chartplotter capabilities ... put in at Settlers Marina and fish the right hand banks straight out from the ramp, all the way into Little Beech Creek (until it turns a hard left, where the ski buoys are located).
I mostly cast and retrieve minnows. But I also like to fish standing timber. As far as I know he's only fished it from the bank. Any reccomendations in where to get bait close to the lake?

if you're going to put in at the marina, there's a gas station right at the hyway where you turn to go there they sell bait and snacks
Wannabe is correct .... at the corner of 44 and 2239 is a Marathon station called Settlers Trace Grocery. They sell minnows, and they'll make you a great ham & colby cheese sammich :biggrin (or whatever).Quote:

Well, looks like my trip to taylorsville just got canceled. My uncle is having back problems and is unable to fish this weekend. Oh well... maybe next time....
